EDUCATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE:
Adult Mechanical Ventilation: 20week rotation including the initiation, management, and
discontinuation of patients receiving mechanical ventilation. Patient assessment and management
of endotracheal, and tracheostomy tubes was an integral component. Rotations included Surgical
ICU, Medical ICU, Coronary ICU, Neurological ICU, Cardio-Thoracic ICU. Ventilators included
PB 840, Servo I, Avea, LTV 1200, Servo 300A, Life Products LP 100, Respironics Bi-Pap ST/D
& Vision, Bird VIP, Sensormedics 3100B, Modalities included Assist/Control, SIMV, Pressure
Support, Bi-Level, APRV, Pressure Control, IRV-Pressure Control.
Diagnostic studies included auto-peep, compliance studies, airway resistance studies, bedside
spirometry, capnography, blood gas analysis, hemodynamic monitoring and ECG interpretations.
Pediatric Respiratory Care: 5 week rotation through a Pediatric ICU and a Long Term Care
pediatric rehabilitation facility. General respiratory care procedures included environmental units,
chest pt, aerosol tx, airway care.
Neonatal Respiratory Care: 5 week rotation through a neonatal ICU. Additional ventilators
included the Bunnell Jet, Sensormedics 3100A, Newport Breeze, the Bear Cub, and the Bear BP
200. Specialized respiratory care procedures included transcutaneous gas monitoring, and
surfactant administration.
Pulmonary Function Testing: 5 week rotation included spirometry, lung volumes & capacities,
diffusion studies, and exercise testing.
Hemodynamics Monitoring: 5 week rotation through the Cardio-Thoracic ICU, the Non-
Invasive Cardiology Dept., and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Specialized diagnostic
procedures included 12 lead ECG, set-up of equipment for hemodynamics monitoring, obtaining
cardiac pressure readings, obtaining mixed venous blood.
Intubation: 3 week rotation through the O.R. performing oral endotracheal intubations
Blood Gas Analysis: 5 week rotation including procuring vascular specimens via arterial
punctures, arterial lines, and swan-ganz lines. Analysis of specimens including co-oximetry. Non-
Invasive blood gas analysis included capnography, pulse oximetry, and transcutaneous gas
analysis.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation: 2 week rotation included patient assessment, exercise program, patient
education, smoking cessation, stress testing.
General Respiratory Care: procedures included all aspects of patient assessment oxygen therapy,
aerosol therapy, equipment decontamination, chest physical therapy, cardio-pulmonary
resuscitation, hyperinflation therapy, bronchial hygiene, and artificial airway care.
