RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST, New York Blood Center 4/1999 to 8/2009
Served as a Research Technologist for the New York Blood Center, which
processes 450,000 blood donations annually and staffs 2,000 personnel
with annual revenues of $270 million. Reported to the Laboratory
Supervisor.
Labor Workflow Procedures Development / Strategy Development with Head
Staff - Worked closely and strategized with the Laboratory Supervisor
to assist in developing more effective workflow for testing 3,000 blood
samples for HIV, HCV and Cholesterol screening; writing SOPs and
maintained GLP compliance; and developed competency tests. Maintained
notebooks and prepared reports on progress and completion of testing.
Maintained laboratory records of experimental protocols, results and
observations.
Research Technologist Functions / Development of SOPs / Quality Control
/ Equipment Maintenance - Extracted RNA from plasma samples to perform
nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) via PCR in order to detect the
presence/absence of HIV and Hepatitis C. Developed and implemented
SOPs; ensuring testing and documentation cGMP compliance. Performed
quality control for all reagents used in the NAT testing procedure.
Performed routine and preventive maintenance on all laboratory
equipment including COBAS Amplicor, Hamilton AT II Plus, and
centrifuges. Prepared reagents and reprocess invalid samples as
necessary.
Leadership & Training of Research Technologists & Lab Assistants - Due
to high performance and quality of work, have been selected to train 5
Research Technologists in retrieval and exporting of test results as
well as 8 Lab Assistants in scanning, storage and discarding of donor
tubes using refrigerator rack system.
MICROBIOLOGIST, Schering-Plough Research Institute 9/1998 to 3/1999
Served as a Contract Microbiologist for this leading research institute,
reporting to the Senior Scientist.
Microbiologist / Assisted in Expanding Actinomycetes Library by 50% -
Prepared and preserved cultures for DNA analysis using sterile
laboratory technique. Performed sterility and viability testing on
cultures to ensure efficacy during high throughput screening.
Monitored and analyzed cultures for bacterial and fungal contaminants
using microscopy techniques. Instrumental in increasing actinomycetes
library by 50%.
MICROBIOLOGIST, P&K Microbiology Services 9/1997 to 9/1998
Served as a Microbiologist for this leading environmental microbiology
service. Reported to the Lab Supervisor.
Microbiologist / Testing of Products, Raw Materials, Components &
Control Environments - Performed routine microbiological testing using
aseptic techniques. Performed serial dilutions and microbial limits
testing. Analyzed air samples using a microscope to obtain fungal
spore and pollen counts. Sub-cloned bacterial and fungal stock
cultures for isolation and regeneration. Performed in-house
environmental monitoring techniques to help maintain the integrity of
the work atmosphere. Tested water samples for presence of Legionella
sp., other bacteria, and fecal coliforms. Prepared media, reagents,
and equipment for microbiological tests.
