up from Private to Sergeant, then attended Officer Candidate School
and was commissioned in the Field Artillery. After more than 15 years
as an officer, I retired as Major on Dec 31, 1993. Here are a few
highlights of my experience:
o Attended many military and leadership schools during my career,
including advanced graduate work at the US Army Command and
General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Course work there
included effective communication techniques, resource
management, diversity, cultural interchange, military tactics &
equipment, and other leadership/management subjects.
o Selected as one of only 30 people chosen each year to attend the
prestigious US Army Comptroller Program at Syracuse University,
culminating in an MBA and a 4 year assignment as a Financial
Analyst and Budget Officer at a major Army headquarters (4-star
command.)
o Personally chosen to be Executive Officer to two Army Generals
o Commanded an Army Recruiting Company for 3 years with 8 stations
and over 30 recruiters. Delivered 600-800 enlistment
contracts each year with this sales force. Company performance
was ranked as #42 out of 43 when I took command, and then
improved to be #1 of out 43 for my remaining 2 years.
o Commanded a nuclear capable Field Artillery Battery in Germany
for 1 year. The unit consisted of approximately 3 commissioned
officers, 20 non-commissioned officers and 80 soldiers, as well
as many multiple millions of dollars worth of equipment and
supplies. This unit was in bad shape when I took over but
became one of the best trained and most capable batteries in the
Group during my command time.
o Taught hundreds of training classes ranging from technical
artillery gunnery subjects to general subjects like equal
opportunity. Evaluated multiple instances of skills
demonstration for individuals and groups.
