Evaluation

Supervised children and observed their interactive play as part of language

assessment and administered Standardized Tests

Treatment

Provided therapy both individually and for groups consisting of 6 children,

working on their speech reading skills, auditory processing as well as

visual phonics (the visual representation of speech sounds). Treated

children with Articulation disorders, Phonological disorders, Childhood

apraxia of speech and Autism

Swallowing Disorders - Observed Modified Barium Swallow Study or FEES and

dysphagia screening

Treatment

Voice patients (Multiple Sclerosis as well as Parkinson's) - Provided

treatment using auditory feedback, changing loudness and pitch inflections,

open mouth approach (to increase oral resonance) and visual feedback.

Swallowing Disorders - Assisted supervising SLP with the Breakfast Group.

During and after each session, patient's performance was evaluated and

recorded for daily reference. Therapy techniques included postural

techniques, indirect therapy through exercise and compensatory strategies

provided to two patients with severe dysphagia (as a result of stroke and

muscular dystrophy) with supervision.

Other Tasks

Worked closely with families to facilitate understanding of the impact of

the disabilities in daily living. Work also included writing of evaluation

reports, progress notes (daily), and plan of care updates (weekly).

Graduate Assistant, Computational, Speech, Sensory, Development & Diseases

Laboratory, James Madison University

Worked on a research grant from National Institute of Health (NIH)

involving hair cell regeneration in birds to study possible applications in

babies born with congenital hearing loss. Assisted in testing new species,

calibrating sounds, working with various computer programs and caring for

animals.
