SuperMedia is one of the nation's largest providers of yellow and white
pages directories. The company provides sales, publishing and other
related services for more than 1,200 distinct directory titles in 35
states with an approximate distribution of 130 million copies. Idearc
Inc. delivers a multi-dimensional platform of products that help
businesses attract the customers they want apart from helping consumers
in finding products they want.
Responsibilities:
. Designed ETL jobs to extract data from heterogeneous source systems
and load into Data marts. Used Staging area to cleanse and transform
the data.
. Worked with the business users in analyzing the requirements,
understanding functionality changes, designing functional
specifications and document accordingly.
. Developed Routines and Shared Containers to encompass common
functionality for use in multiple jobs across the project.
. Implemented validation techniques in transformer stages to process
incoming data from external sources. Validations were based on the
business requirements.
. Ensure data consistency and accuracy to facilitate reporting
efficiency.
. Converted Volume intensive and time sensitive batch jobs from Server
to Parallel Extender (PX) Jobs. Multi-Node configurations were used to
run these Jobs.
. Test and Validate ETL's in Datastage 8.0.1(IBM Information Server)
Environment to ensure code compatibility.
. Used Job Parameter sets in Datastage 8.0.1 to enable users to share
job parameters and their values across multiple jobs. Also, used
Connection object sets to access Table metadata information.
. Used the Resource Estimation functionality in Datastage 8.0 to predict
hardware resources needed to meet the processing time requirements.
Built Static and Dynamic Models to estimate resources based on varying
volumes of data.
. Used Stored Procedure stage in Datastage 8.0 to execute the stored
procedures in SQL Server.
. Used IBM Information Server web console to pull operational metadata
reports for critical jobs.
. Designed separate set of tables and defined rules, types of anomalies
and exception handlers that were used to validate the incoming data.
Classified various types of anomalies occurring in data that have to
be eliminated, and defined a set of quality criteria to cleanse the
data. Data anomalies were classified into syntactical (characteristics
concerning the format and values used for representation of the
entities), semantic (characteristics concerning Integrity constraint
violations, duplicates), and coverage (Missing values, null values in
non null able fields).
. Different cleansing methods such as Parsing, duplication elimination,
Referential integrity enforcement, data transformation were applied to
ETL Jobs to map the given format. The lookup tables were defined with
standardized data values to simplify the downstream data-handling
approach.
. Monitored and Maintained nightly jobs using Autosys scheduler. Support
and Troubleshoot nightly processes upon failure.
. Wrote UNIX shell scripts to call Jobs from Autosys and pass Variables
at runtime.
. Efficient use of Hash files and Datasets to improve lookup and
performance throughput.
. Used techniques such as indexing, partitioning, hints and execution
plan to optimize query performance in the jobs designs.
. Used several PX stages such as Change Capture, Change Apply, Look up,
Modify, Filter and Peek in building parallel jobs.
. SVN (Subversion) is used for version control of the Scripts developed.
Version control feature of DataStage is also used to maintain versions
of the DataStage jobs.
. Design Jobs using Embarcadero's DT studio to perform Extract,
Transform & Load from different sources.
. Test Track Pro is used on a day to day basis to effectively resolve
issues related to data and reports.
. Working on the conversion project from Oracle to Netezza Database.
Actively participated in the POC of the NZ Database.
. Performed POC on Informatica PowerCenter and PowerExchange.
. Used XML Pack of Datastage to Publish XML Documents from Tabular data
and to Parse XML document into tabular data.
. Used Web Services pack of DataStage to enable users to request reports
by invoking the Webservices designed in Datastage.
Environment: Data Stage 8.x/7.x, IBM AIX 5.x, Oracle 10g,Netezza Twinfin,
Toad, PL/SQL developer, SQL Navigator, Unix Shell Scripting, Autosys Job
Scheduling.

Regence BlueShield, Regence BlueShield of Idaho and Regence BlueCross
BlueShield of Utah. Collectively, the four Plans serve more than 3
million people in four states. The Scope of the "Hospital Reimbursement
Project" at Regence is to develop a common repository for hospital data
to support hospital contracting across all four Plans or the states ID,
OR, UT, WA. To develop a hospital claims repository, a hospital data-
mart, containing at least 3 years of claims experience data for all four
Plans; utilizing source data from REWARDS (The Regence Warehouse
Reporting and Decision Support); Oracle database, SQL, SAS, and Excel.
This project will help forecast hospital trends and stave off unplanned
increases in hospital reimbursements. Contracting staff in all four
plans will be in a strong competitive position during hospital
negotiations as they are armed with accurate, timely and relevant
hospital reimbursement data. This will also help management to make
relevant comparisons leading to well-informed decisions.
