Manager Railroad Network Operations Parts, Warren, MI

I was responsible to ensure on-time delivery of over 1,000 daily shipments of railcars to and from

53 General Motors parts and assembly facilities across North American thereby eliminating

supply chain disruptions. Supervised a staff of 20 who were responsible to track and expedite all

railcar deliveries and coordinating alternative transportation requirements to support GM

production schedules. I managed railcar fleet requirements for over 3,000 railcars in dedicated

service to GM plants including compliance to annual maintenance requirements.

• Improved on-time delivery of railcars from 50% in 1996 to 87% by 2000 through coordinating

a regular and rigorous performance review process with all Class 1 railroads.

• Our staff reduced capital expenditures for shipping containers 8% over five year period by

reducing transit time schedules resulting in over $20 million in savings.

• Improved railcar annual maintenance compliance from 30% in 1999 to 95% in 2002.

Manager Rail Contract Negotiations, Detroit, MI

I was responsible for negotiation of all contract rates for railroad agreements between GM and

North American Class 1 railroads covering $500M in annual business. Additionally, contract

service performance commitments were defined for all contracts including premium

transportation responsibilities of the railroads. Developed and implemented an internal GM

contract review and approval process for all future railroad business awards.

• Reduced contract spend by 3% over three year contract period through competitive rate

structures.

• Reduced GM’s premium transportation exposure.

• Improved transit time commitments across all contracts thereby reducing in-transit

inventories and capital expenditures for shipping containers

I was responsible to coordinate border safety and US Homeland Security requirements for over

300 carriers crossing Canada and Mexico border at nine international gateways. Audited

carrier’s compliance and developed security procedures to ensure integrity of GM’s supply chain

thereby reducing exposure for delayed shipments. Coordinated US Homeland Security

requirements with over 400 GM parts suppliers in Mexico and Canada, ensuring supply chain

security and expediting customs clearance entries.

• Exceeded corporate goal of 98% on-time delivery for cross border shipments and met 95%

goal of shipments cleared through expedited customs entry systems.

• Improved GM supplier compliance for US Homeland Security requirements from 35% in

2008 to 81% in 2009.

Manager Logistics Workplace Safety, Warren, MI

Led development, communication and auditing logistics workplace safety processes and

standardized work procedures for all 53 GM plants across North America involving GM / UAW

(United Auto Workers) employees, railroad employees, and trucking company employees.

Coordinated regular and remedial dock safety training at all plants. I also managed equipment

maintenance program requirements for fleet of 3,000 railcars and 10,000 trailers in dedicated

service to GM plants.

• Reduced workplace safety incidents and injuries 95%, from 2000 through 2009, by

standardizing workplace safety processes developed in coordination with the UAW and

carriers.

• Reduced damage to railcars and trailers by 50% thereby controlling maintenance costs for

GM’s carriers.

• Developed and implemented a safety cage to protect employees during railcar door

opening / closing operations by leading a cross-functional team from UAW, GM Health and

Safety, and all Class 1 railroads, thus eliminating safety risk to employees and reducing fork-

truck damage to railcars.

• Improved required annual maintenance on trailers from 62% in 2003 to 98+% compliance by

proactively managing truck service providers.

• Improved annual preventive railcar maintenance from 30% in 1999 and exceeded 95%

corporate goal by holding the railroads accountable for their performance.

• Met corporate goal of 100% safety process training on a yearly basis for all GM North

American plants.
