Senior Director Global New Product Introduction
Managed a department that included product line and project management,
customer and sales support as well as product test. Responsibilities
included documenting and re-engineering the New Product Development process
to improve efficiency and effectiveness and make the overall process more
repeatable and predictable. To accomplish this goal, initiatives were also
started in the areas of product architecture and outsourcing of product
development.
PITNEY BOWES INC., Shelton, CT
Director Global Product Support (2004-2007)
Managed escalations and projects that emerged from International markets
Project Leader Mastermark Core Team (2007)
Special assignment to resolve complex design and manufacturing
problems on a packaging printer product to avoid legal issues for the
company. Made significant contribution to getting the design issues
resolved without the help of the original design team which was no
longer at the company. It required coordinating the efforts of cross-
functional groups within severe time constraints.
Engineering Leader RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) (2005 -
2006)
Head of US Engineering in a global company response to the European
Community environmental initiative to remove lead and other hazardous
materials from products by July 1, 2006. In the US alone there were
120 products to convert, 400 suppliers involved and 2400 parts to be
converted. This was a very complex project requiring a lot of cross
functional global coordination that had a strict deadline and
protected approximately $1 billion in revenue to Pitney Bowes.
Project Leader Midjet WOW Core Team (2004 - 2005)
Team leader for the design and development of an in-line weighing
module for a mid-range mailing product line. The project exceeded
difficult stretch targets for product and development cost and time to
market.
Director Electrical Engineering (1995 - 2004)
Built and maintained a strong functional organization responsible for all
electronic design, development and implementation in Mailing Systems on a
worldwide basis. Built and managed an organization that consisted of up to
45 engineering professionals supporting up to 40 projects simultaneously.
. Identified and developed key leaders in the management and technical
ranks of the corporation
. Developed a strong technical organization capable of assessing a new
product's electronic development requirements, recommending the most
effective combination of internal and external resources to accomplish
the development and execution/management of the project

PITNEY BOWES, INC. continued
. Reduced the cost of electronics in PB products as well as the
development cost over time through deployment of new technology, value
analysis and close coordination with manufacturing/product supply
initiatives
. Developed electronics including proprietary integrated circuits and
embedded software for several major new products ranging from
standalone digital inkjet meters to high speed, high performance
inkjet mailing systems
. Designed and developed embedded high reliability software, distributed
processing systems and communication systems capable of fault
tolerance
. Active product support of electronics for all Mailing Systems products
. Co-created an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Strategy
for Mailing Systems to provide foundation for electronic platforms to
drive the common architecture initiative
. Implemented processes and tools in place to help the company deal with
industry wide shortages and obsolescence of electronic components and
also drive lower cost solutions
. Brought in new Electrical Computer Aided Design (ECAD) tools into US
Electrical Engineering and then rolled them out Internationally (UK
and France)
Engineering Manager, Acting Director, Director Electrical Engineering (1992
- 1995)
Functional Leader for Electronics in the newly formed Mailing Systems
Engineering organization. Expanded role from Circuit Design to also include
ASIC design, Printed Wiring Board design and Design Methodology.
Manager, Advanced Electronic Design (1989 - 1991)
Managed a design group consisting of 17 engineering professionals that
provided innovative designs to Technical Systems & Advanced Products and
Operating Units through the application of current and emerging
technologies.
Technical Advisor, Corporate Engineering and Technology (1987 - 1989)
Planned and executed a program to reverse engineer a competitive meter to
document suspected patent infringements. Project Manager of a PC to Mail
product R&D team.
Technical Advisor/Proj Mgr at Advanced Weighing Systems and Shipping
Systems (SP/S, SIS)(1985-1987)
Project Manager assigned to define, design and develop a new middle-of-the-
line multi-carrier manifest shipping system (1st PC based product at Pitney
Bowes).
Jr. Engineer to Sr. Engineer (1974 - 1985)
Led software team in the design and development of an external accounting
system for the 70 lb. scale systems. The first PB product to utilize high
level language - Basic. (Liaison with Canon Inc.) Design and development of
microprocessor based hardware and software for a 2 load cell scale products
(liaison with Rockwell International) as well as CRTs and CCD scanner.
