. Created a risk model validation team and currently leading the team
to validate all risk models of the bank; Market, Credit, Operational risk
models, ICAAP and Basel II BIS ratio. Validation subjects not only
include the soundness of the model, but also include data, process, model
development evidence, credit policy, risk management policy, controls,
and use-test
- Validation results are reported to the CEO and board level risk
management committee.
- Some examples of validation subjects on the credit side: Corporate
Models (Large, Audited, non-Audited, Medium, SOHO-Corporate), Retail
Models (ASS/BSS, SOHO-Retail), and Credit Card Models( ASS/BSS)
exposures.
- Market and Operational risk validation is performed annually
- Validation of ICAAP (Internal Capital Adequacy Approval Process) is
added in 2010
. Reviewed the bank's credit derivatives practice and improved
investment and control processes
. Reviewed CDO (Cash, Synthetic)/CDS valuations and their adequacy of
investment processes/policies and recommended to enhance investment
decision process and to develop exit strategy
. Created a relative business risk concept that would measure the
impact of risk transfer from competing bank to Woori bank as borrower's
loan position change. The result was reported to the chair and the vice
chair of the bank. The idea became a regular part of the annual credit
review work in 2007.
. Created a risk composite score scheme that would assign risk scores
to individual branches and select review samples to be reviewed by credit
review team's credit analysts. The work has become a regular part of the
annual credit review in 2006.

notes for an European investment bank. The structured notes with
difference over a million USD between the market value and the book value
were selected for the restatement. This exercise included calculating
contingent payment and amortized cost of the structured notes.
. Led a market risk team as a part of developing Enterprise-wide Risk
Management System (ERMS) for one of the leading banks in Korea. The ERMS
project encompasses the comprehensive development of risk analytics,
systems, organization and processes. Also, gave seminars on limit
allocation process and methodology to the bank's management.
. Led an Operations team as a part of establishing Business
Contingency Planning for a major US investment bank. The role included
leading interviews to gather process information, identifying/assessing
risks, planning mitigations, and validating plans. Also, designed and
built a database to store and analyze collected data and to create multi-
dimensional reports.
. Valuated MTM of a leading Korean bank's entire banking and trust
portfolio worth about 16 billion USD. This was done as a part of due
diligence process for a major US investment bank's investment.
. Improved and developed a risk reporting system for an European
investment bank's North American branch. Some significant results were
implementing efficient equity/equity derivatives position collection and
rigorous error capturing process. The daily VaR was reviewed and
abnormal VaR numbers were investigated for modeling errors.
. Managed automation of a reconciliation process between the front
office system (Imagine) and the back office system (ADP) for major
European investment Bank's North American branch.
. Developed a risk assessment tool (RAT) and implemented it at major
Spanish bank's New York branch, Miami agency, and Securities.
. Evaluated various financial pricing models and VaR models for DKB.
Instruments included various exotic options, bonds, convertible bonds,
structured notes, swaps, swaptions, and other derivatives.
. Assisted in the pilot implementation of a highly sophisticated risk
management system for major insurance company based in St. Paul. The
role included implementing 'hot spots', testing the system's portfolio
optimizer with given risk and investment capital as constraints.
