PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:
1. MOSS 2007 deployment and customization for Shell, USA
Title : Development and customization of MS Office SharePoint
Server (MOSS) 2007 for Shell, USA
Client : Shell, USA
Duration : Sept 2008 - Till Date (25 months till date).
O/S : Windows Server 2003
Tech. Details : MS Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 (including
object model), Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0, Visual Studio 2008
Database : SQL Server 2005.
Description : Cri-Criterion, a division of Shell, decided to
start using Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (one of the worldwide best
selling product by Microsoft) for all content management purposes.
Considering all Customers, all Locations under each Customer, all Units
under each Location and at least a Cycle for each Unit, the total number
of SharePoint sites are around 18000. Each site is customized to suit the
business needs and is fully loaded with many automated customized
components including, but not limited to, necessary Site Columns, Content
Types, List Definitions, Site Definitions, Site Permissions Levels,
complex web parts, automated metadata assignment using event handlers,
SharePoint Timer Jobs, Bulk Site Creation tool, Bulk Site Update Tool,
jQueries etc. I have heavily used SharePoint Object Model (also called
APIs) in most of my projects.
I, as a sole Architect and Developer, designed and developed the whole
portal (with 18000 sites) including all its components, while making sure
to follow Best Practices suggested by Microsoft and Org level standards
depicted by the parent company Shell. The deployment is in the form of
Solution Package which is the only suggested technique by Microsoft for
multi-server SharePoint farms. I am also involved in meeting customers
i.e. end users to understand their requirements which I translate into
Technical Design Documents before starting the actual development.
Team Size : currently 3 onsite
Role : Onsite Architect, developer and support.
2. MOSS 2007 deployment and customization for PepsiCo, USA
Title : Development and customization of MS Office SharePoint
Server (MOSS) 2007 for PepsiCo, USA
Client : PepsiCo, USA
Duration : March 2008 - Sept 2008 (3 months till date).
O/S : Windows Server 2003
Tech. Details : MS Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 (including
object model), Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0
Database : SQL Server 2005.
Description : PepsiCo decided to use MOSS 2007 as their Team
Collaboration Portal. PepsiCo has an existing implementation of LDAP
(Java IDx) as well as MS Active Directory. Most of the internal
applications use LDAP Authentication as part of Single Sing On using Site
Minder. I have implemented SharePoint as a Dual Authentication approach,
one using Windows Authentication with AD and the second using Form Based
Authentication against LDAP. I have also configured the LDAP SharePoint
web application to take part in the existing SSO (Single Sign On)
environment. I have created a custom MasterPage for PepsiCo Branding and
have used the Solution Deployment Technique, which is a preferred
deployment technique as suggested by Microsoft, which automatically takes
care of the deployment on the multiple WFE servers within the farm. I am
also involved in an InfoPath form development and a custom workflow using
VS.Net 2005. I have used Feature Stapling technique to Activate the
Custom MasterPage Feature on the OOTB Site Definitions. I have used Event-
Receiver Assembly Feature to apply the Custom MasterPage to the newly
created Sites automatically. I have implemented a common Global
Navigation (horizontal) across multiple Site Collections.
Team Size : currently 1 onsite
Role : Onsite Architect, doing frequent interaction with
client.
3. MOSS 2007 customization for Autodesk, USA
Title : Development and customization of MS Office SharePoint
Server (MOSS) 2007 for Autodesk, USA
Client : Autodesk, USA
Duration : July 2007 - Feb 2008 (8 months).
O/S : Windows 2003
Tech. Details : MS Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 (including
object model), Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0
Database : SQL Server 2005.
Description : Autodesk has decided to go for MOSS as their
intranet portal for knowledge management. In this project I played a role
of Architect as well as tech lead/project lead from offshore. We created
custom Master Page, custom page layouts using Microsoft preferred ways.
We have used techniques like "Feature Stapling" for automatic activation
of some custom Features when a new site is created from an OOTB site
definition. We have used advanced techniques like "Event Receiver
assembly" so that we can execute our custom code immediately after our
custom Feature gets activated using the above mentioned Stapling
technique. We are customizing the MySite layout (without touching the
OOTB site definition) and developing some custom RSS reader web parts
which can pull different News articles to display on the MySite based on
the logged in user's Department from the User Profile Database. We used
FxCop to enforce Microsoft coding standards.
We have developed a "Site Migration tool" which can migrate Site
Collections from SPS2003 platform to MOSS 2007 platform with the help of
only a few button clicks. Our tool internally uses SharePoint object
model as well as command line utilities like PRESCAN, STSADM and
SMIGRATE. We have received a lot of appreciation from client for this
tool because this tool has helped everybody to reduce the manual complex
Content Database Migration process to a very simple UI based desktop
application. The tool internally restores the site collections in a
separate content database on the intermediate server before migration and
eventually backs-up the MOSS content database so that this can be
shipped/restored on the PROD MOSS farm.
Team Size : 4 (offshore) + 1 onsite
Role : Offshore Architect as well as project lead/manager,
doing frequent interaction with client.

their MOSS 2007 customization project to Wipro. During this project, we
created custom site columns, custom content types, custom List
definitions, custom Document Library definitions, custom image library
definitions and custom Site definitions using Microsoft's preferred
methodology/technology. We deployed all these as Features. We created
solution deployment package (.wsp) while sending the deliverables to
onsite because it is the most preferred way of SharePoint solution
deployment suggested by Microsoft.
