Senior Design Project
Stryker Medical
Goal: Design product concepts to prevent falls and injuries from falls in a
hospital setting.
. Met with Stryker on a regular basis to provide product updates and
receive feedback
. Used the engineering design process and the Group Normative Technique
to develop 32 possible concepts
. Organized concepts into bed modifications, products for the bed and
stand-alone products
. Evaluated all 32 concepts using Pugh Matrices to establish the top
rated concepts
. Conducted interviews with nursing staff to gain feedback on concepts
. Selected 12 concepts to further research and develop
. Created a research review summarizing all of the research conducted
during the project
. Organized final concepts into short, medium and long-term based on
development time
. Used Pro-Engineer to create models of the product concepts to show
form and function
. Developed and ran proof of concept testing to prove the theory behind
the concepts
. Evaluated results from testing and organized them into an
understandable and useable manner
. Wrote a final report containing all data, explaining findings and
making recommendations
. Created final project presentation along with promotional poster to
outline the project
