I have crafted and led the newspaper's coverage of the current
health reform debate, including issues of access, equality and
cost, as well as the role of the insurance industry and
challenges facing hospitals, community health centers and
public health agencies. I have also led a series of forums with
health care professionals and business leaders to debate reform
proposals and needs.

SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS, Savannah, GA
Covered county commission, local planning board and wide range
of issues facing this rapidly growing coastal community,
including ongoing friction between residents and developers,
rising property taxes and the growing gap between wages and
cost of living.
In previous beat as business reporter, did enterprise work on
development and growing pains, including the need for roads,
water and sewer and other infrastructure.
Also did an extensive investigative project on malfeasance at a
local development authority, which left taxpayers liable for up
to $38 million. The series won a Georgia Associated Press award
and a Georgia Press Association award. Mid-scale projects
included immigration and poverty reduction.

Covered county commission and two city councils, community news
and education.
Wrote an award-winning series of articles about a county
commission chairman who repeatedly broke ties to build a $40
million water and sewer system with taxpayer money and run it
by all his development properties. The commissioner was
eventually levied the largest fine of its kind by the Georgia
Ethics Commission.
