Objectives:
Summary of Qualifications:
Performs assigned pre and post analytical activities related to anatomic pathology tests
assigned including specimen collection and processing, Quality Control, equipment maintenance,
inventory control, Quality Assurance and proficiency testing procedures.
Performs analytical activities and troubleshooting related to specimen processing,
embedding, cutting, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, coverslipping and handling
of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens.
Assists in training new employees and histology students while providing leadership and
mentoring to histotechnicians, fellow histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff to maintain optimal
operations and outstanding customer service.
Supports cross departmental partnerships and communication amongst Pathologists,
Pathologists’ Assistants, hospital staff and clients taking immediate steps to correct, follow through and
report any mistakes or errors to department manager, assistant manager or lead tech including resolution
to customer service issues within guidelines.
Attends and participates in scheduled department and committee meetings as assigned and
participates in and has knowledge of Performance Improvement activities including evaluation of any new
procedures and equipment.
Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing and
hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene Plan and
Infection Control policies.
Prepare reagent as needed
Assist in distribution of product and infusion report
Assist in preparing and organizing paperwork of product removal
Assist in obtaining Certificate analysis for all supplies
Assist in organizing client records for off site storage
Assist in Program Assistant in Monitoring labels and processing worksheets for document control
Assist in maintaining patient forms in billing for annual product storage
Assist the Histo Tech
Helping at necropsy by organ weighing
Filling and pulling records for stats and scanning
Archive wet tissue, slide and block
Use and maintain equipment, e.g., micro write, autostainner, embedding, center necropsy .
Prep the processing machine for daily shift
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accurately label slides, transferring all required information to correct paper labels.

Correctly match draft prints with slides
•
Disperse case distribution list, daily packages, label and send-out completed cases.
•
Organize work to meet established turn-around-times.
•
Prioritize tasks according to current departmental practices
•
Integrate slide availability with current courier schedules.
•
Upkeep charts, request forms, and performs data entry
•
Enter counts for cassettes, blocks and slides into logbooks.
•
Track cases through the audit trail. Follow-up on identified problems
•
Perform simultaneous tasks, rotate assignments according to department needs.
•
File blocks and slides.
•
Communicate accurately and effectively.
•
Comply with all department and organizational rules and policies.
•
