. Budget- I have been responsible for multi-million dollar
budgets during my previous career. The importance of budget
management is everything when companies need to have tight
control on every penny spent, and I have always been
focused on successful control of budget milestones as well
as inventory and payroll. Example- Saved $3,500,000.00 for
one year by restructuring Contracts and Billing. This
effort also generated $800,000.00 in credits that could be
used at will.
. Project Management- I have been involved in numerous
projects during my career that required strict control on
resources, budget, manpower requirements, contracts,
inventory, deadlines, and other factors. Example-
Communications needs for Fiesta Bowl and New Years Eve
block party for a major city. (9/11 required the ultimate
effort in public safety needs and our efforts were
nationally noteworthy.)
. Employee supervision and management- I have managed
departments of from 4 to 134 employees. This job included
payroll, union contract issues, inventory, scheduling,
training in technology and safety, as well as other
critical items. Inventory and payroll are important of
course in budget control. Example- I was responsible for a
crew of 134 Firefighters used to help reduce our workload
during peek demand. These firefighters were brought in on
their day off. They had to be trained and outfitted with
the required tools and skill sets to make them productive.
They also had to be scheduled into trucks that were
available because the permanent technician owning that
truck was off that day. I also had to manage hours worked,
payroll, customer complaints, etc. involved with this
project.
. Customer Contact - I have been responsible for customer
satisfaction and sales for most of my previous career.
Customer satisfaction is most important to the success of a
company. Example-I was "Escalation Manager" for a major
Telecommunications company. The area of responsibility was
the entire state of Arizona. I had to make contact with the
customer and have a solution designed to fix or satisfy the
customer in a 48- hour time period. I then generated a
report and sent this report to the office of the CEO of our
company. To create the solution required contact with the
area manager and/or responsible technicians for that
customer.
Some skills have not been discussed because of the importance of
your valuable time.
I am asking for consideration with regard to this opportunity.
Thank You
Some History
I was recently employed with the State of Arizona. My job was with the
Department of Economic Security (DES), Unemployment Insurance Tax (UI
Tax) unit. I supervised the Clerical Unit comprised of 4 to 6 people
depending on the budget.
Clerical is a support unit challenged with tasks that allow the Status Unit
of UI Tax to be customer focused and successful in providing great service
with concern to unemployment tax. The support tasks involve research of
accounts, log in of applications filed, daily mail (incoming and outgoing,
including certified mail and other applicable mail needs), letter writing
(Determination letters), document sorting and filing, typing, address
changes, verifying, keying various data needed, answering incoming phone
calls, directing calls to the right examiner or unit or Automated Call
Director, and many other day to day support activities that are critical to
the success of the Status unit in the Department of Economic Security.
I was involved in creating a document tracking Excel spreadsheet that
should benefit the unit in document inventory, tracking and handling. I
also created a time tracking solution for employee labor hour management. I
was responsible for purchasing, inventory, and distribution of Status
supplies and equipment.
During my employment with the city of Tempe, Arizona I had an
opportunity to re-organize the billing and contract structure for the
communications department. (This department had been in the red for
seven years prior). I worked with all vendors, contractors, and others
with regard to budget, billing and contract and evaluated issues and
problems with each in relation to the budget. I then created new
contracts that were in tune with the goals of that department. I also
was responsible for obtaining $800,000.00 in credits owed the city by
various contractors and vendors. This again was for a period of one
year.
I was also instrumental in the design and creation of a Public Safety
Communications Vehicle, used by the City of Tempe during two Fiesta
Bowls, and two New Years Eve Block parties. This vehicle provided
Radio Interoperability for numerous agencies during these events. It
was also showcased by JITC as another solution to Communications
Interoperability for Homeland Security.
These are a few examples of my management skills as well as my ability
to manage projects that are value added to my employer.
My career in Telecommunications added numerous skills also valuable to
you. I have been a technician and a manager. I have supervised groups
from a few to 134. I have been a mentor and an arbitrator in employee
issues.
Telephone company career-
I started as a telecommunications field technician (craftsman) in
Business and Residential, which required quick learning skills, being
able to work alone, problem solving, sales, and customer contact. I
worked my way up the ladder doing numerous and responsible jobs within
the company, and became a Field Manager over work crews from 7 to 135
people. My job has always been to respect and promote the company
goals, focus, and traditions, as well as promote the logo. I follow
all set company standards and policies, promote team building, trying
to instill in all employees a positive and forward thinking
mentality.
Many years of Management taught me to be able to mentor, to be
available, to my team and my company. I learned how to be on top of
numerous responsibilities and projects at the same time.
Responsibilities have included development of schedules, management of
inventory, work solutions, ordering needed equipment and supplies in a
timely manner, work with multi-million dollar budgets, setting
timelines and goals, working with vendors, contractors, contracts and
contract writing, keeping track of payroll, managing projects with
strict budget control. I handled and solved customer escalations in a
48 hour timeframe for the entire state of Arizona. I have also been
involved with union contracts and dealt with union issues. I have
created and implemented safety programs. I always looked for better
ways of doing business that add value. I have written and maintained
appraisals, handled discipline issues to conclusion. I have been in
front of customers during my entire career, giving the best possible
customer experience. I have always worked with contracts, policies,
and guidelines. I have been able to adapt and conform to change, and I
always look for maximum value for the dollar. I have always handled
stress, stressful situations, problem solving and solutions the same
way, with clear thinking and results driven energy and attitude.
I ask for the chance to prove my value and worth to you and your
company. Thank you for your time.
