EXPERIENCE
Qinetiq North America Jan 2008-Jul 2010
Principal Electrical Engineer
Lead electrical engineer on several projects related to robots, radio
control, and video distribution systems. Designed FPGA and all digital
electronics for high speed RF receiver section of an anti-IED jammer, as
well as the digital controls for the jammer exciter. Served as chief
electrical engineer with review/approval responsibility for all design
documents. Attended all design reviews and provided technical oversight to
all programs within department.Principal investigator for multiple design
projects, including: development of scalable FPGA-based architecture
building block for rapid development of diverse and modular robot controls
structures; internal R&D to develop jam-resistant and jam-cooperative
radio. Established FPGA technology center at QNA and initiated training for
other EE's in FPGA firmware design methods, VHDL hardware design and
simulation. Completed specifications for a new all-digital FPGA-based radio
platform. Authored several successful proposals including full cost
accounting, background, and technical content.
Goodrich Corp., Optical/Space Systems Nov 2004-Jan 2008
Senior Electrical Engineer IV
Proposed and implemented entirely new electrical architecture for next
generation airborne imaging system using distributed controls; specified,
designed and documented general purpose FPGA-based motion controller and
networked I/O device for five-axis high precision gimbal system; performed
embedded system design; managed subcontractors developing focal plane
hardware; executed all aspects of PCB design and procurement including
oversight and corrective inputs to board layout house for high speed, mixed
signal PCB layout; created a robust and deployable strategy for noise
reduction, shielding, and grounding, all implemented on a flexible
controller hub. Worked independently without direct supervision for six
months, delivering products and achievements on schedule. Commended for
excellence in presentation of Design Review material to customer.
TekCel, Inc. Jul 2003-Jun 2004
Senior Electrical Engineer
Supervised all electrical aspects of a new system through a very aggressive
development cycle; served as chief architect of a distributed controls
system for a fifteen axis robot with high standards for reliability in a
demanding operating envelope. Acted as program manager for Electrical
Engineering group, reporting directly to Vice President.
Brooks Automation, Inc. Mar 2000-Jul 2003
Electrical Controls Engineer
Designed I/O hardware and architecture for semiconductor manufacturing
robotics. Developed and implemented hardware/software test solutions. Wrote
and performed company-wide training seminar on use of DeviceNet. Project
management for controls PCB development. Oversaw CE testing and compliance
for new system hardware.
Various Employers Jun 1995 - Jan 2000
Electrical Engineer, contract
Designed and built prototype electrical and mechanical hardware for
automated precision optical inspection system, airborne optical terrain
mapping systems, two-axis servo gimbal used to position a thermal imaging
camera, advanced ultrasound imaging system, and a crablike walking robot
used in surfzone mine detection.
