Currently looking for a Junior Linux Administrator position, I have
experience working with primarily Ubuntu, some OpenBSD and some slackware
and a little Centos. I also have coding experience with the scripting
language PERL and a little Bash.

Job Title: Integrations Developer / Junior System Administrator
A key part of the integrations team. I write applications to enable the
integration between Broadbean technology and various global recruitment
clients and jobboads.
My role also includes support, which often consists of liaising with
client's and job boards to resolve any issues raised by their account
managers. This often involves troubleshooting any variety of issues and
dealing with both technical and non technical contacts.
I have recently started doing some work on the senior development team
which has involved building new features for our existing products and
supporting and updating the current system using Perl, XML, SQL and some
JavaScript.
I am now also training to become a system administrator. This has involved
setting up an internal monitoring system which can alert a designated
support technician from a predefined rota. This system had to be easily
scalable and very reliable.
I have also been set the task of installing and testing a "High-
Availability Storage Cluster" and report back to my superiors with my
thoughts as to whether this system would be useful within our work
environment
Main job functions include:

Jennings Bet (2007)
I was working part time for a betting firm called Jennings Bet. I had been
employed there for just over 4 months. During that time I had to take deal
with clients and place their bets into the system and also deal with any
account queries. I also worked on their teletext pages where I was required
to create update and maintain all the different templates for various
different events
General labouring (2005 - 2007)
Before joining Jennings I worked part time labouring for a building firm.
As well as learning new skills, this maintained my physically fitness, kept
me active, developed my team building skills, and improved my attitude to
being a group member. I thoroughly enjoy team activity as a result of this
experience.
Classic Travel (2004)
I completed two weeks of work experience with 'Classic Travel', during
which time I had the opportunity to learn about the organisation take part
in booking flights and holidays, contributing to the administration of
flight tickets and systematising their database as well as handling
confidential bank details.
Other Interests:
I enjoy Kyokushin Karate, Music, Motorcycling, Swimming & Running. I have
built some websites and currently have 2 sites hosted. These can be seen at
http://www.anothersmith.co.uk and www.technowrite.co.uk. The another smith
site has become a sort of testing grounds for me when trying out new
technologies and practising. I am also working on a few other which I hope
to have live soon.
Distinctive Skills:
I am 100% confident when using Linux and have installed and maintained my
own workstation along with several others. I have also become the
administrator / support guru for anyone else wanting to use Linux at
Broadbean.
I have also installed and maintained my own LAMP server dealing with
everything from upgrading the server, installing various programs and
configuring them to setting up Firewalls and changing various ports to
enhance security on the server.
I have an excellent knowledge of XML, and am confident when using SQL to
run queries.
Personal Statement:
I am a motivated and hard-working individual looking to work in an
environment that will not only expand my existing talent but give me the
opportunity to develop and learn new skills. I am always committed, willing
to take on new challenges and adapt to any given situation. I have a strong
sense of initiative and am able to work on my own, whilst at the same time
being equally keen to work as part of a team. I am a good communicator,
pay attention to detail and am thoroughly organised.
