Senior Designer
Contracted to provide PCB designs for space flight and ground equipment
utilizing Mentor Graphics Board Station and VeriBest Router. Designs
included multi-layer, double-sided PCB's with bonded heat sinks and high-
speed requirements, including transition line terminations and differential
pairs.
Raytheon Systems, Baltimore, Maryland ( 2008-1994
Senior Designer and Site Librarian
As Senior Designer, designed high-density multi-layer PCB and assemblies
for military and commercial applications. Utilized HDI techniques, blind,
buried Vias, Microvias and Via-in-Pad, complex Rigid-Flex, Analog, RF,
Digital and Mixed Signal, High-Layer count designs up to 20 layers with a
mixture of high-speed digital, differential pairs and matched length
signals. Provided schematic capture to final assembly drawings; wrote and
implemented changes as needed. Supported factory, assembly, and depot to
troubleshoot and resolve problems. Supported design group with in-house
ample software support and programming. Scheduled in-house training from
vendors on new and emerging technologies. Consulted with PCB fabrication
and assembly vendors for prototype builds and assist in transition to
production. Coordinated and chaired meetings, peer and design reviews;
provided status to management. Started out as one of two librarians,
created parts libraries, symbols, footprints, and catalogs using LMS tools.
Once the library was established, we started Mentor Designs. I continued
to build parts and design boards simultaneously until a full time librarian
was hired.
Accomplishments leading to reducing cost and improving
reliability:
. Redesigned Front Panel Interface PCB to support multiple product lines.
. Designed compliant pin, rigid-flex motherboard as the building block for
all products used in receiver product line; saving time and money.
. Designed the first "Six Sigma" PCMCIA Card created in our factory.
. Worked with our factory to develop solder stencil openings for increased
factory yields. Was part of a team that developed a "paste in hole"
process so multiple technologies could be processed at the same time,
decreasing heat cycles to the assemblies during production thus improving
lifespan and quality.
. Rewrote post-processing program to automate the transfer of data to the
fabrication vendor by automatically checking the validity of the design,
creating manufacturing output such as Gerber, drill, milling, plots and
work instructions based in each design, with dates, time stamps and
contact numbers. This proved to not only save a huge amount of effort and
time for each designer for every design but virtually eliminated errors
in processing.
. Developed a method to extract, sort and transfer pick and place data to
our on-site factory for both single and double sided PCB's. This greatly
reduced errors in placement and increased time to market.

CAD/CAM Specialist
Returned as a CAD/CAM Specialist for which I initially had the same
responsibilities as before. Designed multilayer, flexible and rigid PCB's
created all required PCB fabrication and assembly drawings, schematics,
part lists and associated documentation. Developed symbol libraries, PCB
footprints, catalog and mapping files for Mentor Graphics applications.
This lasted about three years when I started to add duties to support the
IT Group.
Within the IT group, duties included managing Mentor Graphics and
ComputerVision CAD systems in a network environment. Provided technical
application support for 20 users at two sites for four separate design and
drafting systems. Systems included Catia mainframe, Mentor HP Apollo,
Caddstation and CV Microstation. Printing, plotting, loading software,
accounting and troubleshooting network issues. Provided backup, recovery
and off-site storage. The last 9 months was almost 100% dedicated to IT
support.

Lead Designer
Designed PCB's and Multiwire assemblies using AutoCAD. Performed
validation of subcontractor designs and checked for compliance with
engineering standards, Interviewed, hired and supervised two technical
writers. Products were embedded computing technology for military and
commercial applications.

Designed multilayer, flexible, rigid, and rigid-flex PCB's. Created all
required PCB fabrication and assembly drawings, schematics, part lists and
associated documentation. Major accomplishments were re-designing the
Motherboard for the Vertical Launching System, oversize (48 inch long) 12
layer multilayer rigid-flex interface cables, Tomahawk, Sea Sparrow and SM2
missile cards. Developed symbol libraries, PCB footprints, catalog and
mapping files for Mentor applications. Used Mentor Graphics for PCB design

Systems, Towson, Md. Rick was one the foremost experts in the group for the
design and development of printed wiring board, flexible wiring board and
master interconnect boards ranging from complex high speed digital designs
with blind, buried and micro vias to analog designs including RF and power
supplies. Rick can pretty much do it all. My job was primarily application
engineering for the group's electronic design platform, Mentor Graphics. I
developed and customized automation software for process and production
