General Experience:

In lieu of an academic engineering degree, I have over 21 years of naval

design engineering and drafting experience with an emphasis in Hull

structure, Outfitting, Habitability and Foundation designs, the last 17

years of which have involved design and working plan development for

construction, conversion, and modernization of U.S. Naval ships. I am

currently assigned to the Engineering Services Directorate as Lead Design

Engineer (Structural). My experience includes shipchecks, design using

AutoCAD for new construction, Post Shakedown Availabilities, SHIPALTs,

HMR/FMR changes, Cost changes, Navy innovation tasks, and Arrangements,

developing Work Packages, and calculating Weight and Moment changes. I

have experience in new construction and overhaul design for Sea Wolf,

Trident, Virginia, and 688 Class submarines. I am also experienced with

Nimitz and CVN 21 Class aircraft carriers, LHDs, LHAs, FFGs and DDGs. I

have progressed in his work assignments from Hull Structure Apprentice

(NNSB&DD Co -Apprentice Grad 82') through Linesman Layout Lead, QA

Inspector, Designer, Senior Designer (including checking), Engineering

Specialized Experience:

Mar 2010 - Present: DELPHINUS ENGINEERING - SENIOR DESIGN/TECH ENGINEER:

Work in the Arrangement division (Lead) for the Habitability Program for

COMNAVSURFPACs and COMNAVSURFLANTs ships. The objective is to completely

renovate every 10 years the crew, CPO and troop berthing and sanitary

spaces every 10 years in order to attain and maintain the habitability

standards.

Mar 2009 - Mar 2010: Q.E.D. SYSTEMS, INC. - ASSIST PROJECT DESIGN MGR &

DEPARTMENT DESIGN MANAGER: Worked as the Department Manager for the Hull

Structure and Outfitting division.

Jan 2008 - Feb 2009: NORTHROP GRUMMAN AMSEC LLC - ENGINEERING DESIGN

MANAGER I: For the LHA 6 project, developed QA procedures, reviewed

drawings as a checker, and managed 14 people in the Hull Outfitting Section

throughout the contract to convert an LHD-8 to an LHA-6.

Jun 1998 - Dec 2007: NORTHROP GRUMMAN NEWPORT NEWS - DESIGN ENGINEER :

For the CVN 21 (New Design) project, was the technical lead for Joiner

Doors, Windows, and Joiner Passing Windows. Mentored and assisted new

designers. Scoped the impact of new work, developed work packages, and

verified model arrangements. For CVN 70 (Overhaul Design), designed Light

and Heavy Outfitting applications using AutoCAD: conducted shipchecks,

performed liaison with waterfront personnel, incorporated cost changes,

checked drawings, and assembled work packages. For SSNs and SSBNs,

designed Lockers and Stowages: conducted shipchecks and designed

modifications and upgrades. Assisted in logistics tasks validating removed

and replacement equipment and assisted with warehousing for outfitting.

Jan 1995 - May 1998: PEAK TECHNICAL SERVICES - SENIOR DESIGNER: On

contract to Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock for CVN 74, CVN 75, CVN 76

new construction, and CVN 65 overhaul, designed using AutoCAD Heavy and

Light outfitting applications, and Watertight Closures (both ballistic and

non-ballistic). Became familiar with the Kamatic bushing upgrade MACHALT

and new welding procedures for structural doors. Also designed CIWS,

Seasparrow, and RAM weapon system installations and modifications, SCBAs

(charging stations, diesel driven pumps, and arrangements), vertical and

inclined Ladders, Replenishment at Sea and Fueling at Sea systems,

Outfitting arrangements, Mooring equipment, and Helo Gantry Cranes, all

using AutoCAD.

Mar 1992 - Dec 1994: JOHN C. MCMULLEN & ASSOCIATES - SENIOR DESIGNER:

Shipchecked CVN 69 for damage control system Halon installations. For

CVNs, DDGs, and FFGs, accomplished outfitting design work using AutoCAD for

inclined ladders, vertical ladders, accommodation ladders, and seven

structural enclosures.

Mar 1990- Mar 1992: NNSB & DD Co.. - Hull Inspector & Radiography: For

new and CVN's and SSN's. Group leader Inspector, and spent one year doing

radiography on Nuclear Piping systems.

Feb 1986 - Mar 1990: JOHN C. MCMULLEN & ASSOCIATES - SENIOR DESIGNER: For

CVNs, DDGs, FFGs, and a Canadian Patrol Frigate, accomplished design work

for both heavy and light outfitting. Performed shipchecks for upgrades

during availabilities and led a 14-man Tiger Design Team in Canada for the

Canadian Patrol Frigate project.

Jun 1985 - Jan 1986: GIBBS & COX, INC. - DRAFTSMAN/DESIGNER: For FFGs,

DDGs, and a Spanish Aircraft Carrier, accomplished Hull structure and

Outfitting design, checked drawings, and performed HMR and FMR cost change

paper updates to drawings.
