Ecological Work

• 2006-2010 Soils analysis, lithic analysis/sourcing, and faunal remains analysis for

Cultural Resource projects (IL, IN, WI, IA, NE, KS, MO)

• 2005-2010 Raptor Rescue Program Member. Capture, transport and release of injured raptors within

Illinois. Species directly worked with: Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Rough-legged Hawk, and

Great Horned Owl.

• 2005 Long Lake nested/breading Great Blue Heron population count with other

researchers for MI DNR

• 2003-2004 Lake Renwick nested/breading Snowy Egret population count with Joe

Melosovich for IL DNR

• 2001-2002 Ethnozoological studies/research among the Ho-Chunk and Ojibwe (WI). Included 4.5

months of field work and identified/recorded/translated 198 species in natural habitat.

• 1999-2001 Ethnozoological studies/research among the Lakota (ND & SD). Included 5 months of

field work and identified/recorded/translated 252 separate species in natural habitat.

• 1996-1998 Research Specialist for Midwest Soarring: Worked to preserve Plumb Island

(Starved Rock State Park, IL) as an “off limits/safe area” for nesting/breading Bald

Eagle population and traditional Native American Burial Ground.

• 1992 Supervisory Climber/Cutter/Diver for Hurricane Andrew relief: Foreman in charge

of environmental restoration/clean-up of the North Miami, FL canal system.

Ethnographic Work

For the last ten years I have conducted ethnographic field work with the Lakota, Ojibwe, Ho-Chunk,

Northern Paiute, and Shoshone Nations. This includes ethnozoological and ethnobotanical studies, kinship

studies, treaty rights, NAGPRA, linguistic studies, and contemporary issues.
