Primary Responsibilities: provide value-added Labor & HR support to the
Aggregate & Concrete Product lines, to direct the implementation of all
human resource 'best practice' policies & programs in 47 Quarry and 200
Concrete Locations; to lead all Employee Relations/ Labor Relations
activities in this non-union & union organization; to recruit employment
candidates for all region level mid-executive, administrative, engineering,
professional and sales positions; to work each day as a hands-on HR
Generalist; to budget and manage the budget for Human Resources. Support
both the PL & BU objectives through implementation of HR strategy to assure

Work with management to identify organizational issues that impact the

In detail:
. Oversees implementation of Corporate Labor & Human Resources programs
and policies for their PL.
. Ensures PL compliance with various governmental laws and regulations
around EEOC, Wage & Hour, worker's comp., disability, FMLA etc.
. Work with BU & appropriate company resources to resolve any litigation
or legal issues.
. Work with Labor Relations staff in formulation of BU objectives in
collective bargaining, labor contract administration and employee
relations.
. Actively engage in communications with other HR Directors in LNA
around best practices and identify opportunities to create consistency
where necessary.
. Implement Lafarge's Union Avoidance program called ' PULSE'
. Work with Director, Employee Development on the coordination of
University recruiting activities in support of the LLDP program.
. Actively participate in the selection and recruitment of key BU
positions. Recommend selection of candidates as well as compensation
packages and employment terms.
. Work with the HR Team Leader to identify and implement processes
necessary to eliminate duplication of work and reduce overall
administrative burden.
. Direct the work of the HR Mgrs and HR Support Services group
throughout the EUS
. Responsible for employee relations for an employee group of 1000+
bargaining unit employees in 35 different locals ( 8 different
internationals)
. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit such behaviors.
. Responsible for coordinating Performance Management activities for
their PL, such as O&HR, IDP, Performance Appraisal, Bonus, and Merit.
. Assists management in addressing performance issues in key positions
and provide consultative support as required.
. Engage management team in actively managing and developing future

. Based upon PL development needs, work with Director of Employee
Development to identify Training & Development opportunities and
resources required for targeted employee populations.

> Successfully negotiated 40 + Collective Bargaining Agreements, to meet
or exceed managements mandate as chief spokes person.

provide talent to the organization as needed

> Successfully recruited a Marketing Director, Plant Management talent
including a project engineering staff of 8, a geology staff & land

international, multiple location, multiple culture, 24/7 mining &
manufacturing company; to lead all Employee Relations/ Labor Relations
activities in this non-union & union organization; to recruit
employment candidates for all corporate level executive,
administrative, engineering, professional and sales positions; to work
each day as a hands-on HR Generalist; to budget and manage the budget
for Human Resources, Employee/ Fringe Benefits & Health and Safety.
Secondary Responsibilities: to coach and support all middle & executive
managers on all aspects of employment, performance management,
compensation, training and organizational development. The job
involves interface with all employees, including the executive staff,

generalist position that reports to the President of Zemex Industrial

Key Accomplishments
> Successfully re-wrote all employee policies, employee handbook(s) and
human resources procedures.
> Successfully analyzed all retirement benefits to decrease the
company's long term liabilities and successfully froze the defined
benefit pension plan, replaced it with a new 401-K program, added an
executive deferred compensation and bonus plan.
> Implemented a new STD program that saved the company $200,000 dollars
a year in direct cost.
> Successfully recruited a complete Research and Development Staff,
including a VP of R&D and a staff of 4; recruited a project
engineering staff of 4, a geology staff of 5, the group controller and
2 accounting managers, 3 plant managers and staffed an acquired plant
business which required 75 employees.
> Negotiated favorably 4 Collective Bargaining Agreements with 4
different unions, on time, within budget, all in 5 months time in
2005/2006.
> Managed a Health & Safety department to a 50% reduction in Lost Time
Accidents in 2005, with a direct savings of $250,000 in medical and
wage expenses.
