System Software Engineer

Through the ownership of four different companies, had complete product and engineering responsibility

for DCPS, the PostScript print application and driver for the HP OpenVMS operating system. This software

handles the user interface, printer communication, printer feature selection and rich formatting features for print

jobs.

Determined product direction and planned new software features; designed, wrote and tested code changes;

tested software and printer hardware and the interaction between them; managed field tests, wrote

documentation; built releases; diagnosed and fixed customer-reported problems.

• Software Design

Added new features through thoughtful design and planning, ensuring customer ease-of-use by carefully

maintaining backward compatibility with previous releases.

• Coding and Implementation

Implemented enhancements and bug fixes with structured code requiring a minimum of

Tested both print driver software and printer hardware to ensure proper print job formatting and

the product, operating system, TCP/IP software and printer firmware.

Discussed future printers and features with engineers and marketing elsewhere in HP. Planned

releases around printer introductions and obtained prototype printers for testing. Diagnosed bugs in printer

firmware. Coordinated and consulted with other OpenVMS engineers to ensure compatibility and

Physically configured and managed dozens of production and development OpenVMS clusters and

systems, and associated Windows and Macintosh systems, required for product development, testing and

support. Installed and upgraded a large number of layered products and operating system upgrades on a

regular basis, including systems with shared storage, RAID sets and volume shadowed disks.
