Summary: I am seeking a summer internship at your company, in order to
apply my analytic and programming skills.
Education
Institution Degree Year
Mumbai University Bachelor of Computer 2009
Engineering
North Carolina State Master of Science in 2011(December,
University(GPA:3.476) Computer Science anticipated)
Academic work experience
Graduate Teaching Assistant (Aug 2010-Dec 2010)
Course: Design and Analysis of Algorithms (CSC 505)
Professor: Dr. Carla Savage
The work primarily involved grading, holding office hours, helping the
students with course related queries, helping the professor in setting up
assignments, and taking class occasionally in the absence of the professor.
Computing Skills
? Languages: C, C++, Java, Matlab, SQL, R, Python
? MS Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint
? Platforms: Windows and Linux
Academic Projects
I have used C++ in courses like Data Structures (undergraduate) and the
Analysis and Design of Algorithms (graduate and undergraduate) to solve
problems.
Database Management Systems: Library Database Development (database
experience)
(team of 4)
? We used MySQL and Java to solve the problem.
? The project comprised of over 35 operations that included searching,
maintenance and calculation of relevant statistics, reporting, answering
adhoc queries, and transaction management.
Enterprise Resource Planning (experience with large data sets) (team of 4)
? Input: A large data set in the form of spreadsheets
? We used MySQL to interact with the database and the front end was
designed in C#.
Machine Learning: Product Recommendation System (currently working on it in
a team of 2)
? We are given input data in the form of a graph, with an edge being
present between two nodes(products), if they are co-purchased.
? Our task to predict whether there exists an edge between two nodes in the
test set.
? Our approach is to use a graph clustering algorithm for training and a
Bayesian approach for prediction. We are using R and Python to solve the
problem.
Data Mining: Movie Recommendation System (experience with mining large data
sets)
(team of 3)
? Won a best poster award for this project in a poster presentation
competition comprising
of over 10 teams.
? Input: A large movie data set
? We used R to solve the problem.
? We devised a clustering algorithm and a classifier that would recommend
movie genres for a user, given his/her demographic information.
Relevant Courses (graduate level unless indicated)
? Data Mining
? Design and Analysis of Algorithms
? Machine Learning
? Database Management Systems
? Graph Theory
? Numerical Analysis
? Masters's Thesis (Title: A New Generalization of the Eulerian
Polynomials)
I am currently doing research in mathematics (combinatorics) under Dr.
Carla Savage.
We have derived new algorithms and counting formulae for special
combinatorial families
and have used it to generalize the Eulerian numbers. We plan to publish
a paper on the same.
