I have had an 18 year tenure with PPD, a pharmaceutical research company in
Austin, Texas. My initial duties were to make corrections to volunteer’s medical
history. I also handled any telephone calls regarding volunteer’s questions
regarding their compensation. I entered their pay incentive information into our
database and coordinated reports with our accounting department for their
compensation, as well as working with clinical coordinators for disbursement of
compensation. I then progressed to working with the data management
department, first as a Data Processing Technician and then as a Senior Data
Processing Technician. In this role I was responsible for processing the CRF’s
(Case Report Forms)for accuracy, and entering and verifying the data into our
database system. As a Senior Technician I was also the study lead on several
studies assigned to me and it was my responsibility to train others on the general
data entry guidelines as well as make sure the guidelines were followed
correctly. My other duties were to do testing on test data before initializing
studies, communicate with the lead data managers either via email or phone
regarding the study status, as well as conduct quality control checks on the data.
