Experience:
GIS Analyst
April 16, 2009 - February 11, 2011
ASRC Resource and Technology Solutions, Suitland, MD
. As a Promotion from GIS Technician, this position encompasses all of the
duties and responsibilities of a technician (see below), but with added
managerial roles. These included the leading and assisting of a group of
technicians working on specific projects, attending weekly meetings with
managers to discuss the day-to-day activities and future projects as well
as suggesting possible improvements in work efficiency. Also I performed
some database management work using Microsoft Access to help keep track
each technician's progress on certain projects. A few examples of
projects I took the lead on were the:
- Zip Code Tabulation Area project (ZCTA) - Led of team of 13
technicians to modify the attribute data in Arcview for certain ZCTAs
to eliminate the ones that had too many differing zip codes or to absorb
them into larger, more spatially correct ZCTAs.
- Address Canvassing (ADCAN) name change project - Led a team of 5
to proofread through the names of every road in each state to ensure
each name's accuracy. This information would then be used to update the
name data for the GATRES system.
- Geographic Areas Review Project (GARP) - Similar in procedures
as the BAS project (see below), the GARP project involved the
manipulation of various statistical boundaries in GATRES using
Arcview as a reference. However, the guidelines for said
manipulation were more stringent, as boundaries could only be
changed if they met certain criteria such as size, adjacency to
certain other boundaries, etc. This was one of the largest projects
we had and yet managed to complete well ahead of schedule.
GIS Technician May
8, 2006 - April 15, 2009
ASRC Field Support Services, Inc., Suitland, MD.
. Updated county and city digital roadmap files by using the GIS
software packages Arcview 9.3, 10 and the census bureau's geodatabase
the Geographical Areal and Topographical Real-time Editing Software
(GATRES) by utilizing said programs with the census tigerline
geospatial dataset to evaluate, edit and digitize street centerline,
parcel boundary and hydrology layers. This also included the
evaluation of certain terrain features in orthophotos from sources
such as google maps, ask.com and the ERDAS imagery library for later
updating in Arcview. Some examples of projects performed include:
- Boundary Annexation Survey (BAS) - Utilyzed the GATRES toolbox
for digitizing changes and modifying attribute data for statistical
boundaries such as voting districts, legislative districts, block
groups, school districts, etc. by using the correct data in arcview
as reference material
- Upload project - Used information in Arcview to modify the
attribute data for road features such as addresses, names, MTFCC
codes, etc in GATRES would also use nodes and vertices to reshape
spatially misaligned features. Received a 2% increase in yearly
bonus for 2008 due to being the quickest and most efficient
technician on this project.
- Edge Matching project - Corrected misalignments in county
boundaries country-wide in order to ensure that there were no
discrepancies in the locations between county boundaries and their
neighboring counties' boundaries.
Digital Imaging Technician
November 1, 2005 - February 1, 2006
Earthdata, Frederick, MD.
. Performed quality control of aerial photography through the
utilization of adobe photoshop in order to enhance said images.
Duties included:
- Correction of distorted buildings and bridges
- The removal of sun glare and smearing effects on the
environmental features such as fields and forests
- Successfully completed a very difficult file in a relatively
short period of time that even the manager was unable to do.
