Work Experience
January 2009 – Present Owner Manager/Developer, Get Ahead - www.getaheadweb.co.uk
Get Ahead was originally established as a web development agency. As the company grew and I began offering
more services such as SEO, mobile phone development and IT support. I acted as a point of contact and a project
manager, meeting the clients and making sales. Throughout I have been the main developer of the websites
produced. The websites have been developed in Drupal to high SEO standards. Other technical work I performed
includes development of Android applications in Java, iPhone Applications in Objective-C and Bash scripts for
automating tasks such as backups and remote synchronisation. I also wrote extensive Perl code to convert the open
postcode data from Ordinance Survey to latitude and longitude co-ordinates. The resulting database containing
17miliion rows, was released to the open source community to allow development of geo-location applications. In
September 2010 the company was broken in to its component parts and sold.
Feb 2009 – April 2010 Partner/Developer, JAMA Enterprises
JAMA Enterprises was run as a 50/50 partnership with a long term friend. The company diverged in many
directions, including software development using the Betfair API in PHP, the Google Maps API in Javascript and
data scrapers written in PHP and Perl.
Oct 2007 - July 2008 Technical Product Manager/Developer, Limitless Internet Solutions Ltd.- www.limitless.co.uk
The aim of the role was to move the administration aspect of my previous Technical Architect role to a separate role
of Project Coordinator. This allowed me more time for managing the project on a technical level. The role was
more development orientated, while still managing the outsourced team. This included responsibility of product
delivery. I managed several products, namely the ones I originally developed. I was responsible for finding
technical solutions to increase web traffic through SEO and SEM. I also implemented Subversion as a replacement
to RCS, which involved writing a set of tools in shell script to automate tasks.
Jan 2007 - Oct 2007 Technical Architect, Limitless Internet Solutions Ltd. - www.limitless.co.uk
My role at Limitless began to include project management. Some of our development was outsourced to a company
based in Uzbekistan. As the company’s most proficient PHP developer combined with my good organization skills,
I was appointed the task of managing the outsourced projects. This involved developing specifications from
requirements documents; regular liaisons (IM, email and conference calls) with the outsourced developers;
development of coding standards documentation and monitoring the code produced. The team were poor
programmers and I often had to rewrite portions of the code.
Aug 2006 - Jan 2007 Web Developer, Limitless Internet Solutions Ltd. - www.limitless.co.uk
Initially I developed an OO-PHP framework to execute the stored procedures in the existing Oracle database. I
implemented this framework for www.teletextcars.co.uk. This included rewriting the front end in PHP; linking to
the OO-PHP/Oracle infrastructure and developing new PL/SQL stored procedure. The front end was developed
using Web 2.0 AJAX and SEO standards.
I was appointed lead developer out of three on the PHP/AJAX site www.motors.co.uk. This was an unlimited
budget site driven by the Daily Mail to rival Auto Trader (www.autotrader.co.uk). The website took over data
control of Yahoo Cars UK and was nominated for Best Launch 2007 by the Association of Online Publishers.
Sept 2003 - Aug 2006 Freelance Web Design and Development
During my degree I produced several web sites start to finish. I wrote a substantial content management system
that I customised for each companies individual needs.
July 2000 - Dec 2001 Systems Programmer, Complinet Ltd. - www.complinet.com
The role included a variety of programming tasks, including PHP/Perl and MySQL web applications; Perl/Tk and
Delphi applications; maintenance of the web (Apache) and mail (Exim) servers and training of junior
programmers. I left my role at Complinet to study for my A-Levels.
Sept 1999 - July 2000 Freelance Web Design and Development
My career in IT began with freelance web design and development. I produced the websites using Perl/CGI
