INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE
Energy Conservation Opportunities in Boiler
Oct 2008-April 2009
Process Engineer Intern
. Performed a case study of a boiler house from a leading dyes and
pigment industry "Asiatic Color Chem. Ltd".
. Carried a performance evaluation of the boiler house where I used
the applications of heat and mass transfer to obtain thermal
efficiency and evaporation ratio of the boiler.
. Guided by "Forbes-Marshall", an energy consultant firm, I learned
ways to effectively optimize boiler operation, and hence save both
money and energy. Later, I monitored the losses i.e. due to
excessive blowdown, scaling and soot built-up, incomplete
combustion & air pre-heater and with proper mountings and fittings
showed ways to successfully increase the boiler efficiency by 10%.
. Calculated the pay back period of the mountings and fittings.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Combined fundamental and experimental approach to milling by Eli Lily
Jan 2010-Dec 2010
Research Assistant, UFL
. Developing a model that predicts the milling behavior of
pharmaceutical powders.
. Developed expertise in using MATLAB and Excel/Spreadsheets to
optimize and develop complete milling model parameters from
experimental data that are obtained by using instruments like Jet
Mill, Coulter LS, Malvern Master-sizer, Aero-sizer and Occhio.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
LIQUID SEPARATION TECHNOLOGIES
. Designed a distillation column, in HYSIS, and carried out the
separation between ethyl acetate and water.
. Discussed other separation technique such as Centrifugal, Membrane
Separation, Chromatography, Ion Exchange, Coalescence and other
Advanced Separation Process.
HEAT PUMPS
. Discussed various types of pumps and also presented a case study
on how heat pumps achieve energy savings and CO2 emissions
reduction.
SKILLS & EXTRACURRICULAR
. Programming Languages: C, C++, MATLAB, and SIMULINK.
. MS office (Word, Power-Point, Excel/Spreadsheets), HYSIS, ASPEN.
. Secured 1st Prize in 'Chemo-Track' where I designed a car that
runs on a chemical reaction - during Mind-Bend' 08 a National
Level Technical Festival.
