Professional Experience
Brayton Energy
Mechanical Engineer II (April 2010-Present)
. Project manager for Next-Generation Microturbine (NGMT), high-
efficiency gas turbine alternative to diesel. Responsibilities
include overseeing a team of up to 15 engineers, designers, and shop
techs, monitoring day-to-day progress, reporting results to clients,
and managing overall project scheduling. Hit aggressive 16-month
project schedule to deliver two prototype engines, on a project with
a $10M budget. (May 2013-present)
. Design engineer for NGMT. Responsible for FEA of high-temp and
-pressure components, thermal analysis, lubrication system design,
and pipe flow analysis. Design efforts resulted in a patent. (April
2010-present)
. Design engineer for underwater compressed air storage system
(UCAES). Responsible for the design and analysis of a flexible
underwater structure with target 30-year life, along with anchoring
system and transport pipe to shore. Resulted in successful grant of
Phase 2 SBIR. (2012-2013)
Ocean Power Technologies
Mechanical Engineer (April 2009-March 2010)
. Designed and analyzed power-generating buoy systems, including power
transmission, support structure, deployment, and mooring through
modeling (SolidWorks), simulation (ANSYS), and hands-on
experimentation
Confero Solutions, Inc.
Mechanical Engineer (June 2007-March 2009)
. Engineering lead for Chek-Mate, a reconfigurable gaging system;
involved in the entire design process, from initial ideation and
prototyping to display of product at a major trade show (IMTS).
Using Chek-Mate components, designed custom automated part gaging
and performed gage repeatability and reproducibility.
. Design and analysis entailing system modeling (Pro/E), FEA (ANSYS),
cost, packaging, and performance of precision motion systems for
internal and external clients
Machine Dynamics Research Lab, Penn State University (mdrl.mne.psu.edu)
Research Assistant for Professor Eric Marsh (February 2006 to May 2007)
. Conducted thesis research on closed-loop control of grinding of
stainless-steel discs, increasing dimensional accuracy and
reproducibility. Three academic publications related to the
research.
. Deep-groove ball bearing roundness measurement and analysis using
proprietary machine; data was used to reduce audible noise level in
elevator cars and resulted in an academic paper.
Gillette, Inc.
Engineering Intern for Blade Process Development Division (Summer 2005)
. Performed lab tests on Fusion razor blades to determine causes and
distribution of manufacturing defects
Science and Technology Center, Tufts University
Student Researcher for Dr. David Kaplan (Summer 2004)
. Designed a novel bioreactor for use in stem cell differentiation, a
version of which is still in use. Project required online research
of previous designs and close work with graduate students who had
created similar devices
