Mechanical Design Engineer
Summary
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with project leadership experience in
developing fully and semi-automated capital equipment assembly machinery.
Skilled in project management, concept development, analysis, concept
presentation, design, tracking and scheduling, along with fabricator /
assembler vendor selection. Recognized for designing precision equipment
and machinery that is easy to set up, operate and maintain. Competent
engineer with demonstrated ability to apply many engineering disciplines
and create solutions to unique and difficult problems.
Professional Skills
. Entrusted to determine systems requirements and to produce equipment
specifications used in the design of equipment to assemble medical
products.
. Ability to conceive concepts for manual, semi and fully automated
equipment / systems.
. Designed semi and fully automated equipment / systems to assemble
medical products.
. Performed design review of assembly process and equipment / machinery.
. Skilled in project management, supervising designers and engineers in
both concept development and the design of semi and fully automated
equipment / systems.
. Determined the necessary geometric tolerances required to produce
desired results and produced detailed and assembly drawings.
. Skilled in selecting fabricator / assembler vendors along with
scheduling and tracking.
. Determined the necessary requirements for CE marking and acquired the
CE mark for equipment and machinery used to assembly medical products.
. Skilled in hands on assembly / adjustment of precision machinery to
achieve desired results.
. Trained personnel to both operate and maintain assembly machines.
. Coproduced operation and maintenance manuals.
Achievements
. Selected as Machine Design Project leader responsible for the overall
development of the ACD (aseptic connecting device) assembly
machines and equipment.
. Conceptualized and designed automated equipment / systems which are
currently being used 24 hrs a day 5 days a week to assembly ACD
assembly components.
. Supervised both engineers and designers in designing ACD assembly
equipment.
. Tracked and scheduled all required tasks resulting in on time delivery
of production machinery.
. Selected fabricator / assembler vendor for ACD machinery resulting in
quality fabrication.
. Procured first CE certification for assembly machines in our machine
design engineering group.
. Coproduced maintenance and operations manuals for assembly machines
BRUCE F. CLARKE PAGE TWO
. Developed spring loaded brim disk to replace non stick coating on heat
mandrels resulting in an annual savings of $50,000.
. Selected as Machine Design Project leader responsible for the overall
development of the LEA (specialty filter) assembly machine and
equipment.
. Supervised both engineers and designers in designing LEA assembly
machine and equipment.
. Conceptualized and designed a machine with dual spin cutting blades,
self leveling hydrophobic impulse welders housed inside the blades,
that cut two disks of media, transports them and impulse welds them to
a polycarbonate housing all in one continuous motion to meet the
unique assembly requirements of the LEA filter.
. Conceptualized a fully automated machine with a production rate of <
2.5 sec per assembly to assemble medical devices used to test for AIDS
while acting as a consultant.
. Selected off the shelf automation components where ever possible and
fully conceptualized all of the remaining component systems to carry
out assembly operations for the following tasks: Pick and place, part
holders, magazine loader / part feeder, part presence detection, media
payoff, cutting / insertion, ultrasonic welding, leak detection using
pressure decay equipment, coating and visual inspection.
. Formulated a series of equations for TK Solver to determine
optimum operating conditions resulting in the elimination of
unnecessary hard ward to produce a cost-effective media-handling
cart.
. Developed a unique right angle transfer device for under $1,000
capable of performing the same service as off-the-shelf
equipment costing over $13,000. Annual sales reached $24,500,000
for this 8-Up machine.
. Performed structural analysis of system components for the entire
engineering support group department and provided engineering support
for gas systems utilizing dry-air and argon.
. Derived my own equations for predetermining the volume of dry-air
required after air side enclosure maintenance resulting in an
efficient system with an acceptable start up time for production.
