European countries.

April 2008 – March 2009 – Assisted in assimilating,

maintaining order of battle data for a mid-eastern country of

concern.

Undertook, maintained order of battle data compilation for

expanded customer's weapons proliferation data base. Compiled,

maintained log of product prices in proliferation transactions,

thereby providing expanded basis for cost estimates. Using

language & area knowledge searched foreign media for further

transaction details, and to resolve ambiguous terms. In addition

used this knowledge to compile documents noting functions &

products at selected foreign development and production facilities.

MITRE Corporation Independent consultant July 1999 –

February 2004.

Provided foreign language support, searching and research,

as well as translation in a variety of substantive areas.

Dealt initially largely with proliferation-related foreign

trade, later with technical disciplines, and thereafter with BW-

related matters.

Provided guidance in support of project on foreign

keyboards.

Provided extensive guidance on Central Asian Turkic

language recognition.

Assisted in other language recognition questions. Assessed

accuracy of optical character readers.

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (now OSC). Foreign

Documents Officer and then Senior Foreign Documents Officer

April 1970 – October 1998.

Provided foreign language support for Agency and inter-agency

projects. This required knowledge of non-standard "up-country"

vocabulary. Participated regularly in inter-agency group assessing

armed forces of newly independent, former Soviet republics,

including order-of-battle as related in foreign language sources.

This involved learning as I went along and compiling my own

used in newly independent FSU republics.
