Objective: A technical position, where I get to apply and learn skills to
solve problems.
Education
B.S., Chemical Engineering at University of California, Santa Barbara
(UCSB). GPA: 3.3
Work Experience:
Intern at Oak Crest Institute of Science. Pasadena, CA.
Supervisor: Dr. John Moss and Dr. Marc Baum (February 2008 - August 2008)
- Analyzed the fluorescence and absorbance properties of compounds similar
to phosphite.
- Used different substrates (Terbium and Europium) for such compounds
- Performed Titrations for varying pH and ligand and substrate
concentrations.
- Gave seminars of the process of my experiments and scientific
publications every 3-4 weeks.
Research Experience:
Undergraduate researcher at UCSB. Santa Barbara, CA.
Supervisors: Dr. Glenn H. Fredrickson and Dr. Nathaniel Lynd (June 2010 -
June 2011)
- Simulated the order-disorder boundary of a diblock and triblock
copolymers.
- Used OriginLab, C++, Linux and Mathematica to perform calculations
involved.
- Applied the Self-Consistent Field Theory (SCFT) to estimate the phase
diagrams of such blends.
Supervisors: Dr. Michael Gordon and Dr. Erin Ozarem (June 2009 - March
2010)
- Performed plasma etching on gold thin films to check their surface
morphology.
- Deposited gold and polystyrene spheres to get a particular morphology
(Lithography).
- Used the atomic force microscope to confirm such morphology.
- Used the GATR to analyze the chemical compounds present on the thin film
surface.
- Gave a seminar every month.
Skills:
- Equipment: UV-vis spectrometer, Fluorescence spectrometer, Evaporator,
AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), GATR-IR, IR, Ellipsometry, Fermentation
Bioreactor, GC-MS, Distillation Column, Wetted Column, Hydrogen Fuel Cell.
- Computer and Software Skills: C++, Matlab, Mathematica, OriginLab, Excel,
Powerpoint, Word, Miktex, PHP, HYSYS, AspenTech, iFrIt, Cygwin.
- Foreign Languages (Other than English): Fluency in Spanish and Chinese.
Other Experiences:
Crew Trainer / Manager at McDonald's Corporation. Arcadia, CA (April 2005 -
April 2007).
- Trained employees tasks in cleaning, cooking, stocking, safety
regulations and customer service.
- Was elected employee of the month once and employee of the quarter once.
Recognitions:
- UCSB College of engineering Dean's Honor List for 4 quarters.
- Xerox Student Scholarship Recipient.
- Pasadena City College. Honors in Calculus and Mathematics.
