SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

I have extensive experience in civil and structural design and project management. Assignments

have required creative solutions for a wide range of structures and site developments. Project

types have included residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings, equipment

foundations, roads and bridges and public works. I’m knowledgeable of the main civil and

structural design codes and design methodologies applicable in the United States and Puerto

Rico. I have working knowledge of RISA-3D, STAAD-PRO, ETABS, SACS, MathCAD,

AutoCAD, MS Office and other specialized software.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

• 2007 – 2012: Waldemar S. Nelson Co., Inc., Houston, Texas – Senior Structural

Engineer – Civil and structural design of industrial facilities. Major assignments have

included:

Design of bulkhead sheet pile wall and access road for Solar Turbines (Turbo Fab) dock facilities

in Channelview, Texas.

Design of miscellaneous structures, pipe supports and installation aides for the Nakika

Galapagos Brownfield Expansion project. Maintained weight budgets for pipe supports

throughout the project.

Design of pipe support structures for the Ertha North Phase II FPSO Brownfield Expansion.

Structural engineer for the design of a 163 MW electrical generation plant in Humboldt,

California. Responsible for the design of the powerhouse and related building foundations, tank

foundations, containment areas, switchgear foundations, pump house foundations and

miscellaneous appurtenances. The project was situated on weak soils in a high seismic area.

Lead structural engineer for the Abayak Generator Facility Upgrade project in Malabo,

Equatorial Guinea. Responsible for the design of the generator foundations, tank foundations,

cable tray supports, sound wall, site paving and drainage.

• 2005 – 2007: Consulting Engineer, San Juan, PR – Civil and structural engineering

design and construction inspection services. Worked on foundation and substructure

structural analysis and design of concrete bridges. Prepared structural details and

specifications for the rehabilitation of a large sports stadium in Carolina, P.R. Worked as

supervisory inspector during the construction of the foundations for a bio-tech

institutional building for the University of Puerto Rico

• 2004 – 2005: Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Puerto Rico Transportation

and Public Works Department, San Juan, PR - Technical policy administration and

continuance activities.

• 2000 – 2004: Caribbean Architects & Engineers (Fluor Daniel Inc.), Guaynabo, PR

– Principal Design Engineer – Dedicated to the structural engineering design of

pharmaceutical and biotech facility projects. Worked on major capital projects for clients

such as Eli Lilly, Amgen, Astra Zeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer. Work consisted

of preparing structural design documents in coordination with related engineering

disciplines, meeting with clients and other design engineers and supervision of work done

by the structural design group.

• 1996 – 2000: Consulting Engineer, San Juan, PR – Provided civil and structural

design services. Worked on the structural design of a station for the San Juan Urban

Train system. Prepared structural design documents for various multi-story residential

buildings, school facilities, office and commercial buildings. Prepared civil engineering

calculations and design documents for residential development projects. Worked in the

seismic analysis and design of bridge structures.

• 1995: Barrett & Hale, San Juan, PR – Senior Structural Engineer – One year

contract dedicated solely to the “Tren Urbano” project for the San Juan Metropolitan

Area. This is an urban rail system extending over 17 km. Worked on developing the

project structural design criteria, preliminary technical specifications and seismic analysis

computations for the proposed elevated guide way structures and underground tunnel

segments.

• 1981 – 1994: Mendez Brunner Badillo & Associates, San Juan, PR – Associate -

Managed project structural and civil engineering design. Implemented a computerized

project management system integrated with the office accounting department. Prepared

civil engineering design documents for a large trunk sewer extension project for the PR

Aqueduct & Sewer Authority. Worked on the structural design documents for

commercial buildings, schools, warehouses and manufacturing projects. Work included

site supervision of structural construction and coordination meeting with contractors.

• 1978 – 1980: Hector Rodriguez Amezquita & Associates, San Juan, PR – Structural

Engineer – Produced structural analysis computations and specifications. Served as

Structural Project Supervisor during the construction phase of project. Prepared a

hydrologic and hydraulic study report for a segment of the Fajardo River in PR. Prepared

structural design documents for a major facility expansion of the Turabo University

campus in Caguas, PR.
