Advise on employee benefit issues involving all aspects of federal and state laws: including HIPAA, ERISA, PHS, COBRA, FMLA and Michigan’s Third Party Administrator Act;
Draft all related documents including Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, Policy and Procedures, Service Fee Agreements and HIPAA Associate Contracts;
Review all employee benefit and other contracts;
Conduct seminars and provide management, staff and clients with all necessary training;
Review and analyze complex medical files;
Determine disability and issue decisions;
Evaluate documents and actions to ensure compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ADA, PDA, FMLA and other related statutes and regulations;
Review and advise on benefit decisions;
Consult with and advise senior management on strategic direction and risk management;
Research issues and direct the development of company guidelines, policies and procedures;
Act as liaison to outside counsel, federal and state agencies and the public;
Reduce costs through research, management of litigation and proactive prevention of problems;
Function as supervisor, assigning, scheduling and directing work flow; and,
Mentor and train employees.
Educational
Explain complex concepts in an understandable, clear, concise manner;
Speak publicly on a variety of topics;
Guide students through client relations and the preparation of documents and oral presentations;
Track and evaluate performance; and,
Assist in career planning.
