Perform Phlebotomy procedures on inpatients and outpatients of all age groups. Immediate response to
trauma’s, cleveland -trauma’s, code blue, code white, code sepsis, and stroke alerts. Remain available for
rapid response patients. Collect, receive, or verify specimens promptly. Notify floors of any pending
uncollected, or unverified specimen orders. Order enter, add on, or cancel certain tests using specific coding
system. Register, STAT order tests, through MYSIS PAML for outpatients. Record verbal doctor’s orders
and read back. Assist staff with information regarding specific specimen collection, handling, amount and
which test tube to use. Monitor uncollected specimens status per shift and communicate with medical
technologist and other phlebotomists of any specific timed therapeutic drug monitoring, missed patient draws,
combative or same last name patients. Clean and stock phlebotomy/processing area, and outpatient draw site.
Daily check email and stay informed of updates in Medi-Tech. Keep mandatory JCAHO and hospital
required tests up to date. Track all processed specimens sent to other sites, be aware and bring any unsolvable
problem to the attention of the Supervisor, Charge Tech, and Lab Director. Acknowledge tests with
insufficient quantity, or missing specimens. Verbally notify Bloodbank Tech or Charge Tech of any pink
blood request slips or Baylor Studies. Prioritize draws per status.

RSV, Strep A, and Rotovirus tests. Plate and incubate microbiology specimens. Make and stain slides for micro
and hematology as needed. Create bodyfluid slides with cytospin. Airfuge any lipemic specimen. Keep
JCAHO and Medicare tests current. Maintain CPR, AED, NVCI, and Standard and Isolation Precaution
certificates.
