SELECTED HIGHLIGHTS
• Retained by McGraw Hill for a 3-month engagement to lead the firm-wide deployment of HP’s
Project and Portfolio Management suite. Contract was extended indefinitely to lead the development
and re-structuring of the entire corporate PMO.
o Problems: The role of the Corporate PMO was undefined and it was not empowered to
implement the changes required to deploy the product. In addition, there were no
institutionalized PM or SDLC processes or standards.
o Solutions: Wrote and acquired approval for PMO charter. Successfully created PMO
staffing plan. Led the creation of firm-wide project management and SQA processes and
procedures and monitoring protocols across all business sectors (including S&P.) Led the
review and audit of high-value, high-visibility projects; both in-flight and post mortem.
Created framework for the capture and analysis of project portfolio and IT assets. Presented
to and acted as consultant to the Executive Steering Committee.
• Employed by B&H Photo Video to “professionalize” the firm’s eCommerce IT team. After 3 months
was promoted to Director to manage the entire 20-person team (BAs, Usability designers,
developers and QA team.)
o Problem: The eCommerce channel, which had previously grown rapidly, was at a virtual
stand-still.
o Solutions: (1) Implemented formal development processed and trained the staff, (2) re-
organized the project portfolio along strategic lines and (3) formed and led a business-
aligned Steering Committee.
o Result: eCommerce sales now exceed the sales of the brick-and-mortar and catalogue
divisions combined.

• As manager of a 20-person consulting team, was retained by Citibank to test and certify Commercial
Bank Cash Product systems (DDA, Funds Transfer and Sweeps.) Citibank had purchased HP
Quality Center to facilitate the testing.
o Problem: Citibank was under the impression that these products were “plug and play.” They
are not and the team was not trained in using them. There was no time or budget to train
the team.
o Solution: The applications were mainframe-base and required only a subset of HP Quality
Center functionality. Developed a special-purpose test scripting language which included
only the required functionality and retained the services of a Quality Center technical expert
as well as an MS Access developer. The Access developer created an application to
facilitate the entry of the test scripts and the technical expert developed a compiler to
convert the MS Access scripts to HP scripts. Developed and taught a two-hour training
course to learn the scripting language
o Result: All testing was successfully completed on time and within budget. Citibank adopted
the software and processes to facilitate testing in other areas of the Bank
• As corporate PMO consultant to AIG:
o Problem: In reviewing the project status reports for an internal client division, it became
clear that a publicly announced eCommerce insurance product launch was jeopardized by a
lack of operational facilities to support the business.
o Solution: At the request of the division’s CIO, was transferred to the division to build the
operational infrastructure. Accomplished the task in a matter of weeks.
o Result: The product was successfully launched on the announced date. Retained as
Product Manager for division’s Cash and Payments product line.
• As a consultant, was retained by Credit Suisse (then CSFB) to manage the Year 2000 global testing
and certification of all SWIFT access points and associated upstream and downstream systems.
o Problem: (1) there was no central repository of SWIFT usage. Each operating unit in the
various countries made their own arrangements with SWIFT, (2) each unit was responsible
for developing and maintaining their own upstream and downstream applications that
communicated with SWIFT, (3) the testing teams were globally dispersed and (4) the
SWIFT-mandated certification required intra- and inter-bank testing.
o Solution: Developed a survey process to assemble access point, application and team
structure information. Conducted regular international conference calls to communicate
testing requirements, schedules and progress reporting. Managed all intra-CS testing as well
as testing with Correspondents, Custodians and trading partners.
o Result: Certification was completed before the SWIFT-mandated deadlines.
