SUMMARY:
An experienced Manufacturing Engineer who has worked with many diverse
technologies and has successfully demonstrated the ability to adapt
portions of each technology to resolve technical problems, or reduce cost
of new products. My initial schooling was in electronics and industrial
control, which combined with my mechanical ability and managerial skills,
allows me to work comfortably in Manufacturing Engineering positions within
a wide range of products. Four of the last five companies that I have
worked for have grown and been acquired by other companies, and the fifth,
InterSense, is poised for buyout at this time.
Skilled in the release and support of commercial, military, and scientific
products using standard NPI, DFM, DFT procedures, mechanical design and
fabrication, product quality improvements, cost reductions, mechanical
inspection, vendor selection, vendor quality support, customer support,
production training, equipment selection and justification, process
documentation, root cause failure analysis, product modifications to
increase functionality, product reliability testing, and agency
certification testing, contributing to corporate growth.
Experienced in PCB fabrication, SMT PCB assembly, flex and rigid-flex
circuits, board build, box build and rack build products, BOM structures,
MRP systems, precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, soft and hard
tooling for plastics, prototype SLA's, investment casting, dip brazing,
maintenance of precision automated production equipment, detailed assembly
and rework instructions, wet and dry vapor deposition, vendor evaluation
and selection, vendor quality management, Microsoft Office Suite, fixture
design and fabrication, cost reductions, facilities layout, fit up, moves,
and SolidWorks.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
InterSense, Billerica, MA 2006 -
2011
Senior Manufacturing Engineer
InterSense products are used in precision tracking systems, virtual reality
systems, flight simulators, and platform stabilization systems. Introduced
thin walled aluminum investment casting to replace a molded plastic housing
to mechanically stabilize a customer's product which resulted in a $400,000
increase in business and added two new customers that will generate
additional revenue over the next two years. InterSense is presently poised
for buyout. I have a contractor's agreement with InterSense to continue to
provide process and design services until the buyout is complete.
Plexus Contract Manufacturing, Ayer, MA 2005 -
2006
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Contract)
Performed typical manufacturing engineering support for all CM activities
required to produce PCB's, digital and video box products, and Homeland
Security airport scanner systems.
Xinetics Inc., Devens, MA 2003 -
2005
Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Xinetics is a supplier of deformable mirrors and precision actuators was
Acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2007. Responsible for material
procurement, selection and support of contract manufactures for SMT PCB
assembly, flex circuits, cable assemblies, build and test of rack level
products. Introduced new PCB fabricators and assembly CM's to decrease
product cost. Engineered and successfully demonstrated a process to
successfully solder a 1,088 position interposer to one surface of a
1.2"x1.2" cube of ceramic actuator material. This project was part of a
phase two SBIR program.
Giganet, Bolton, MA 1997 -
2002
Sr. Manufacturing Engineer
(A startup) Acquired by Emulex in 2002 for $645,000,000, Giganet is OEM
supplier of network switches, PCI cards, and ASIC's to Dell, HP, and
others. Worked with multiple OEM's to become a certified supplier and also
with our CM's to ensure that they met their schedule for quality PCB
assemblies. Designed enclosures and tooling for PCI cards, and box level
products per the requirements of each OEM, while maintaining a basic
generic footprint. Satisfying the individual needs of each OEM customer
without negatively impacting any other OEM was critical to the success of
our business.
Xylogics Inc., Burlington, MA
1984 - 1995
Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Xylogics was an ISO9000 certified OEM supplier to Sun, Siemens, Cabletron,
and other major OEM suppliers, supplying memory controllers, network
servers, PCI cards, and multiple other networking products. Xynetics was
acquired by Bay Networks in 1995 for $330,000,000,
Responsible for managing five manufacturing engineers and one equipment
repair person to provide all in-house process development, process
documentation, equipment maintenance, support issues from SMT PCB assembly,
to box build for many OEM products as well our own product lines. Completed
fit up and move into a 60,000 SF and a 35,000 SF building, both completed
within 3% of budget. Successfully engineered and implemented a multi-track
conveyer system in the production area which started at the raw material
storage racks and carried material to conveyor build and test stations,
continuing on the conveyor system to the packaging area for inclusion of
manuals and customer selected optional items, and then to the shipping
area.
