Special Education Assistant
The responsibilities as a Special Education Assistant are all encompassing
for the daily instruction of the students. These included carrying out
therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development
programs, under the supervision of special education instructors,
psychologists, and speech-language pathologists, which included providing
extra assistance to students with special needs, such as those with
physical and mental disabilities. As part of the curriculum, organized and
supervised games and other recreational activities were used to promote
physical, mental, and social development. Assisted children individually
and in small groups in order to help those master assignments and to
reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Provided disabled
students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance
accessing facilities.
On an administrative level, distributed teaching materials such as
textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students, organized and
labeled materials, and displayed students' work in a manner appropriate for
their perceptual skills. Other duties included supervising students in
classrooms, and schoolyard, while recording relevant data to assess
progress of each student. In addition; conferred with teachers on progress
of students, attended staff meetings and trainings, enforced administration
policies and rules governing students, and maintained high standards of
excellence.

In-School Suspension Supervisor
Responsible for the daily operations of maintaining classroom for lunch
detention and in-school suspensions. Kept detailed records of students who
served detention and suspension. Notified teachers and parents when
students complied and did not comply. Compiled data for record keeping of
monthly infractions broken down by demographics. Assisted security staff in
analyzing case problems and in search and seizure of prohibited items,
often searched female students who were brought into the Dean's office for
weapons, contraband, drugs and other harmful articles. Observed students in
classroom to assure all students were safe and adhered to regulations and
all rules were followed.
