experience in troubleshooting equipment/process, statistical data analysis, design of experiment, root cause

identification, developing new and optimizing existing manufacturing processes with a focus on safety, and robust

solution implementation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to properly prioritize

and complete multiple projects with minimal oversight and direction.

Professional Experience

Hexcel - Salt Lake City, Utah (2010-present)

Process Engineer – Carbon Fibers

Responsible for researching, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing equipment associated with the production

of carbon fiber. Utilize statistical process control to analyze and monitor key process parameters and mechanical

properties.

• Key member of team responsible for commissioning new fiber lines that are currently under construction

• Interface with vendors, production staff, and management for procurement of equipment in relation to product

specifications, manufacturing capabilities and project status

• Member of cross department team to reduce tow losses and improve product yields by 3%

• Coordinate quality control objectives to resolve production issues and maximize product reliability while

minimizing costs

ATK Launch Systems – Promontory, Utah (2004-2010)

Manufacturing Engineer – Premix (2005-2010)

Process owner of an automated production facility that produces propellant chemical batch mixes for the Space

Shuttle Solid Rocket Motors. Specialized in control systems, liquid and solid material transfer, dense phase pneumatic

conveying, and loss-in-weight feed systems. Process owner for propellant premixing and mixing processes for small

scale propellant mixes in support of the Booster Separation Motor Program. Responsible for optimizing the

manufacturing process and qualification of changes, which required detailed presentations to senior management and

customer, developing process procedures, carrying out studies to optimize product process parameters through the use

of SPC, improving operational safety and equipment reliability..

• Led capital improvement project to modify dense phase pneumatic convey system making the process more

capable of handling variations in raw material characteristics, thus reducing down time by 40%

• Led team to eliminate plastic contamination sources in the product stream reducing product discrepancies

by 10%

• Qualified improvement to HVAC system to reduce temperature variation and increase the accuracy of

loss-in-weight feed systems, reducing scrap material saving $10k

• Led investigation team for the SWECO over pressurization incident, completed PFMEA, hazards

analysis, and facility modifications to prevent reoccurrence

• Key member of cross functional team which developed an inert propellant formulation and mix cycle

• Led Total Productive Maintenance case study to reduce equipment down time and ensure critical spare

parts are available on demand, saving $50k

• Develop and analyze statistical process control charts and trends daily to monitor/optimize equipment and

process performance metrics to ensure product quality and yields

• Interface with operations and maintenance personnel, provided training and documentation for special

processing requirements, preventative maintenance, and equipment operating procedures

• Knowledge of automated control systems with Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic interpretation experience

Manufacturing Engineer – Mix (2004-2005)

Process owner of raw material container refurbishment facility and team leader for developmental program material

kitting process.

• Developed process for welding on explosive contaminated raw material containers

• Led cross functional team to develop a new process to kit materials for propellant mixing

• Co-chaired team to complete PFMEA for raw material kitting process

University of Arizona - Tucson, AZ (2004)

Research Assistant

Assisted graduate student in performing total carbon content analysis and atomic absorbance spectroscopy testing to

support studying the removal of arsenic from water using surfactant micelles and enhanced ultra pure membrane

filtration.

ATK Launch Systems – Promontory, Utah (2003)

Manufacturing Engineer Intern

Co-chaired team to reduce propellant mix size in order to reduce environmental emissions from the burning of excess

propellant.

Education

University of Arizona - Tucson, AZ (2001 – 2004)

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
