SUMMARY
Result oriented, hands-on experimental physicist with diverse technical and
management experience. Highly adaptable to different environments;
experience in R&D and product design. Over ten years of hands-on experience
in design and development and management of optical systems and diode-
pumped solid-state lasers and high-power semiconductor laser-diodes used
for medical, military and civilian applications.
EXPERIENCE
Aerius Photonics, Ventura, CA
Laser Scientist/Optical Engineer (Consultant), June 2010-present
. Managed the design, simulation and modeling of diode-pumped, solid-
state laser designators and optical system
General Atomics, San Diego, CA
Laser Scientist/ Optical Engineer, Jan. 2003-Feb. 2010
. Design and development of time dependent 3D imaging (LIDAR) technologies
for DARPA and Air Force.
. Managed the development of short pulse, diode-pumped solid-state laser
used for 3D time dependent imaging (LIDAR)
. Managed the development of a beam diagnostic system for the optical
characterization of a 150 kW laser, which include fully automated
measurements of Near-field, Far-field, beam jitter and wave front
aberrations of the laser. The system was controlled with LabView and
Mathlab script was used for data analysis.
. Expert in laser resonator design and modeling using ZEMAX, MATLAB
. Lead laser scientist in charge of design and development of novel diode-
pumped Q-switched solid-state lasers used for time dependent imaging and
laser designation and range finding
. Used Zygo interferometer for determination of the wavefront distortions
in various diode-pumped gain modules
. Managed the procurement of laser and optical components
. Interacted with laser-diode vendors and optical companies to specify
parameters for the laser illuminators used for a government funded
project
. Designed and developed a series of diode-pumped, passively Q-switched
laser oscillators with pulse width ranging from ~ 300 ps to 30 ns.
. Used ZEMAX for sequential and non-sequential ray tracing of optical
system and lasers
. Used GLAD (General Laser Analysis and Design) for the simulations of
lasers and beam propagation
Ditech Communications, Mountain View, CA
Senior Optical Engineer, Nov. 2000 - Nov. 2002
. Managed setting up a long-haul/Ultra-long haul DWDM fiber-optic
communication system.
. Designed experiments to study various impairments such as dispersion,
SBS, Self-phase and cross-phased modulations and four-wave mixing in
various fibers.
. Designed and built a high-power tunable pump laser for Erbium-doped
fiber amplifiers. The optimum pump wavelength was determined
experimentally for high-gain and low noise-figure EDFAs. As a result
of this study, the manufacturing yields increased from 25% to 80%.
MetroLaser, Inc., Irvine, CA
Research Scientist, Oct. 1999 - Nov. 2000
. Design and analysis of various laser diagnostic systems based on
Holography and Interferometery such as Particle Size Analyzer and Laser
Doppler Vibrometer.
. Wrote various proposals to government agencies for the design and
development of unique laser-based instrumentation used for military and
civilian applications.
Laser Power Research, San Diego, CA
