Summary
Full Career of automation and control projects using PC based user
interface communicating with micro-controller based systems. This has been
applied to mainly protection systems for large superconducting machinery,
and can be applied to many engineering applications. PC Based user
interfacing is done with Labview for windows. Micro-controller based
systems are programmed with Keil PK51 UVision3 IDE/C51. Designed controls
for world's first 8MW and 36.5MW superconducting motors for ship drive
applications under Navy contracts with Office of Naval Research (ONR).
Designed controls for first superconducting synchronous condenser for
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
I spent the last two years integrating Softing's hardware and software
stacks with customer specific applications from concept and specification
to implementation.
Software Tools
. IAR Compiler and Renesas Compiler for Renesas MC62P 16 bit chips.
. GNU tools for Make environment.
. National Instruments Labview for Windows: (14 years experience) Graphical
represented programming tool for data acquisition and process control
applications.
. Keil PK51 UVision3 IDE/C51: (4 years) Tools for designing projects for
8051 based micro-controller systems. Main chip experience is with
Silicon Laboratories C8051F040. This ship has on board peripherals such
as ADC (analog to digital converters) CAN (Controller Area Network), 5
timers and 5 PCA's (Programmable Counter Arrays) and much more.
. SuperCad: (8 Years) Schematic Capture
. Super PCB:(8 years) PC board layout software
. Microsoft Office
Highlights of Experience
. Specification and implementation of customer specific Profibus and
Foundation Fieldbus integrations with Fieldbus ready PCB's
. Designed micro-controller based system for controlling and protecting
world first 8MVAR/1800RPM superconducting Synchronous Condenser. Made
user interface with Labview software.
. Designed Hardware and Software for 36.5MW Navy motor using Keil PK51
UVision3 IDE/C51 with a Labview user interface. This was the first system
utilizing CAN (Controller Area Network) to make 3 controllers work
together in a distributed control system using Keil PK51 UVision3 IDE/C51
. Designed micro-controller based system for controlling and protecting
world first 5000HP/1800RPM superconducting motor. Made user interface
with Labview software.
. Designed software for controlling the world's first 8 Tesla HTS magnet
sold to the Navel Research Laboratories.
. Designed control and protection system for a large magnet sold to the
Navel Underwater Warfare Center for study in mine detection. System
controls magnet power supply and system protection. Runs via RS-232
control or stand-alone.
. Designed over a dozen fully automated workstations for testing
characteristics of HTS wire. In general, workstations have one or more
large power supplies and devices for voltage, temperature, and magnetic
field measurement.
