data. Maintenance and enhancement of systems for loading and searching
databases (VAX/VMS, FORTRAN, DCL). Development of a utility for
converting delimited data to fixed format.
Consultant: Syntellect Interactive Services, Roswell, GA, 1996-1997.
Principal application developer for service bureau division of leader in
the interactive voice response (IVR) industry. Design, programming,
implementation and subsequent upgrade of a two part (combination
overnight batch and interactive on-demand) fax system (OS/2, Telephony
REXX with VocalPoint VAD). This project won the client's Quality Award.
Complete development of a fax server system (OS/2, T-REXX,
Informix/SQL) as a corporate utility. Also served as pre-sales
engineer.
Jacobs Levy Equity Management, Roseland, NJ, 1990-1995.
Quantitative Investment Analyst: Conducted computer-based research on a
universe of 3000 common stocks. Accessed corporate data (especially
CompuStat financial data and IBES earnings estimates) from the DAIS
online database, and macro-economic data from the U.S. Department of
Commerce Economic Bulletin Board. Processing was primarily FORTRAN
programs and BMDP statistical package in a VAX/VMS environment; also,
spreadsheets and REXX programs in MS-DOS. Planned and executed numerous
brief, ad-hoc research projects for internal use or to satisfy client
requests for information. Developed utilities for data extraction and
comparison.
Through 1994, also served as systems manager. Responsible for hardware
and software purchases; arranged equipment maintenance. Selected LAN
vendor and oversaw network installation. Screened vendors of trading-
room systems.
Supervised other staff in systems projects. Maintained production
systems (same hardware and software as above); improved their speed and
accuracy. Automated large portions of trading and accounting
operations, allowing the firm to expand its business rapidly with
minimal increase in staff.
Aetna Life & Casualty, Hartford, CT, 1975-1989.
Systems Advisor, Financial Division Systems Department, 1982-1989:
Supported various departments in the Financial Division. Also
contributed to the online accounting subsystem of the division's new
securities investment database (COBOL, Focus, VAX/VMS).
For the Financial Guarantee Department: Developed a system (FORTRAN and
Lotus 1-2-3, MS-DOS) which utilized projections of interest and foreign
exchange rates to track Aetna's currency swap guarantees with the World
Bank.
For the Portfolio Management Group: Developed and maintained a
Performance Measurement System (COBOL, VM/CMS) for portfolios of mixed
investment types (primarily fixed income and real estate). Ad-hoc
reporting (RAMIS, VM/CMS).
For Corporate Planning: Supported the Investment Planning Model
(FORTRAN, VM/CMS), producing estimates of funds available for investment
based on actual and projected results of investments and operations.
For the Real Estate Investment Department: Enhanced a system (COBOL and
FORTRAN, VM/CMS) allowing entry of information concerning potential
investments; the information was in turn fed into the department's
valuation model.
Senior Operations Research Analyst, Common Stock Department, 1980-1982:
Complete responsibility for development and support of the Fund
Managers' Information System (PL/1, FORTRAN, RAMIS, VM/CMS); system
allowed managers, on a day-to-day basis, to examine holdings and
performance of one or more actual or theoretical portfolios, and view
information on specific stocks; these capabilities did not previously
exist. Developed a full-screen trade ticket entry system (PL/1 and
FORTRAN, VM/CMS), significantly enhancing staff productivity and
information timeliness. Carried out short-term, ad-hoc research
projects (FORTRAN, RAMIS, VM/CMS).
Performed a variety of administrative functions, including equipment
acquisition and maintenance, and occasional supervision of production
work; represented the department in the data processing community.

Maintained and enhanced the Data Processing Equipment Inventory System
