Biomedical Engineer

Education

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester, M

B.S. Biomedical Engineering, Feb 2013 GPA: 3.80/4.0. Minor: Electrical Engineering.

Work Experience

Electrical Engineering Intern, Insulet Corporation, May-August, 2012, 2013, Bedford MA.

• Working, with senior engineers, on root-cause analysis of failures due to the

manufacturing-site laser-welding processes effects.

• Worked, with lead engineers, on root-cause analysis of alarming and non

alarming Piezo-electric material failure, and working on improving their performance.

• Analyzed the characteristics of Shape-Memory-Alloy wires impedance and its

effects on the operation of the whole unit.

• Trouble shooted Radio Frequency communication and specified the weak points.

• Designed and conducted procedures with regard to temperature and humidity effects on

the operational PDM systems.

• Designed and conducted voltage and current regulation tests and study its effects on the

glucose measurement accuracy identification inside the PDM units.

• Designed a method to measure and analyze the PCB-level noise.

• Tested Sound and audible noise level testing.

• Wrote reports, test procedures, and protocols.

Engineering Intern, Grove Instruments, Worcester MA, Sep 2012-May 2013

• Tested and identified different sets of distributed feedback laser diodes for use in next

generation devices.

• Prepared new piezoelectric meter, and programmed software for data collection and data

analysis for device pressure control using LabVIEW and MATLAB.

• Designed alternative testing fixture for load cell calibration and test preparation, which

resulted in useful data.

• Verified newly released software versions for testing purposes, gave suggestions of new

software controlling ideas to facilitate testing environment.

• Modified mechanical testing fixtures for device components calibration.

• Worked on issuing procedures and method of testing and reporting the results.

Volunteer Researcher, Advanced Body Sensing, WPI, June to August 2011

• Collected and analyzed raw PPG data to extract important physiological activities: HR,

SpO2, and breathing rate.

Engineering Project Experience

Mental Fatigue Assessment, Major Qualifying Project (MQP), WPI, Sep 2011-May 2012

• Worked in a team of four, successfully designed an experiment to assess mental fatigue,

from simultaneous HR data. Found a direct positive relationship between the HF

component of the HRV and mental fatigue level, using MATLAB algorithms and PPG

device that were made by the group.

Wireless Heart Monitor System, ECE Design Project, WPI, Mar-Apr 2012

• Designed, in a team of three, a system that can potentially alert a caregiver in a distant

location if a patient’s heart activity is abnormal. Built and tested a prototype that detects

heart beats, and uses RF module to alarm the care-giver.

Standard vs. Osteoporotic Screws, Biomechanics, WPI, Oct-Dec 2011

• Worked in a team of three, to test expensive screws designed specifically for osteoporosis

and verified they had higher pull-out strength than the standard cortical bone screws in

osteoporotic porcine. Found that the average improvement made by the osteoporotic

screws from the standard cortical screw was 220%.

Milk Cooling Container, Biomedical Design Project, WPI, Aug-Oct 2011

• Collaborated in a team of three to design a cheap and non-electric milk-cooling

container for working mothers of Haiti. The device kept the milk at low

temperature, contamination-free, and preserved nutrients.

Music Composition Using a Real-Time MRI Biofeedback System, WPI, May-Jul

2011

• Identified, through fMRI feedback, reasons why music could be composed

through monitoring the brain activities of the medial prefrontal cortex and come

up with more creative pieces of music than EEG-based music composition.

Visa Status

• Permanent Resident (Green-Card Holder).

Skills & Awards Summary
