Experimentally investigated needle tissue interaction for precise needle positioning in biological tissue. Applied
textures to needles and quantified the friction and needle deflection at the needle tissue interface.
Mathematically modeled hypodermic needles for reducing patient pain during needle insertion. Important needle
design parameters were identified and needle tip volume at given insertion depths were calculated using the
model and SolidWorks.
Investigated vibration tissue cutting of blunt needles for reducing needlestick injuries. Effects of needle blunting
length and vibration frequency on insertion force were quantified through experimentation and modeling.
