As a (08-10) Support Services Supervisor Reference Labs(Accessioning Dept), responsible for all Florida
Division (including Puerto Rico, Bahamas, and Virgin Islands) reference testing
logistics and preparation of specimens for shipment to affiliated laboratories for testing. This
includes accessioning, splitting, aliquots, separations, frozen sample preparation, and packaging of shipments
in compliance with IATA regulations (governing bio-hazardous materials in airspace), the Food and Drug
Administration (Blood-borne Pathogen), and the Department of
Transportation (DOT) (governing inter-state transport of hazardous materials). A direct staff of 34,
Operational support in each department and reporting to the Technical Laboratory Director,
Tampa Laboratory.
• Reduced uncontrollable Over-Time from a high of 43% to a low of 7% through cross
training and implementation of LEAN laboratory concepts to streamline processes and reduce inefficiencies.
• Created Standard Operating Procedures for the Department as well as Instructional
Guides with accompanying metrics to each step of the preparation process of each bench.
• Played in integral role in ensuring that department met the standards for accreditation
needed to pass the College of American Pathologists (CAP) ISO 15189 Quality Inspection,
which was a complete success.
