Skills Summary- Over thirty years of experience in industry working my
way up from the loading dock during summer breaks in high school to plant
manager after graduating college. Experienced in production and plant
management in areas of planning, inventory control, hiring, firing,
scheduling and managing labor and equipment in operations such as tufting,
coating, cutting, sewing, dyeing, shipping and warehousing. I’ve got “old
school” skills that include knowing how to manually figure materials
requirement planning, do time studies, etc. with attention to detail, coupled
with cutting edge experience on the best production software, SAP. Also
scheduled and managed maintenance personnel. Purchased raw materials
including yarn, latex and primary backing; shipping supplies such as
corrugated and plastic bags; janitorial supplies, conveyors, lift trucks, print
materials, plant equipment and maintenance supplies. Negotiated price,
quality and terms with suppliers. Travelled to customer locations and met
with buyers often ensuring compliance, quality, service and good relations.
Qualifications
Management- Five years as Assistant Plant Manager and fifteen years
as Plant Manager for Georgia Tufters, LLC. Managed 150 employees and
approximately $20 million of inventory. At one time we had the best-selling
rug in America with K-Mart and won several vendor service awards
including Supplier of the Year from Target, twice. Planned and scheduled
raw materials, labor and equipment for routine business as well as new
product roll-outs and customer ads. Responsible for all plant operations,
inventory levels of raw materials, WIP and finished goods. Responsible for
products shipping on time.
After SAP implementation I was the SAP production head for two
plants with over 200 employees and production manager for both the rug
and bedspread plant responsible for system application, operations planning
and inventory levels of both plants. After we were purchased by Shaw, I was
the Senior Planner for their tufted rug division. In this I planned and
scheduled all production, all yarn and backing, coordinating with producing
plants on inventory levels and material production. Responsible for raw
material and WIP inventory.
Technical- Member of the core team for SAP implementation,
handling the Production Planning side but advising in the Materials
Management module also. Improved total inventory turns from 3 to 4 after
SAP implementation. Maintained product routing groups which I created.
SAP was a total operations system covering bill of materials, routing,
production orders, sales and production control. At Shaw, I used several
systems for operations: Aspen-based Demand Management for demand and
subsequent shop orders, Units Shop Floor for transactional process steps,
Mainframe apps and spec information, Excel spreadsheets as needed, as well
as a Gantt chart scheduling system. Advised and tested Shaw adaptations in
several system environments. Involved with several Kaizen and Lean
initiatives.
Interpersonal Skills- Excellent with people, (employees, suppliers
and customers) strongly believing in the team concept, recognizing the
importance of good leadership while always aware of the value of every
teammate. I strongly believe in management by walking around. I don’t stay
in the office. I feel you need to be on the floor to assess what’s happening
and support your people. I believe in keeping things simple and practical
whenever possible. Diligent, calm, analytical, with a good sense of humor
would describe me well. I’ve got a wealth of experience wearing many,
many hats. The bottom line is that a business be run efficiently to maximize
profit potential while treating its employees fairly and with compassion.
Objective- To work in industry or business in operations
management, planning, or purchasing field. Would be open to any area
where personal integrity, attention to detail, commitment and forward
thinking get the job done. I’m a no-drama type that can be relied on to get
the job done.
