Grad project: Design of 256*256 bit image processing module with FPGA

• Project is department Advisor’s grant in group project of 3 level architecture. 256 x 256 image frame

needs to be scanned 18 times in one second and transfer using 3 levels of FPGA’s, memory mapping

and decoding is needed at each level for storing data, at final level of FPGA data is transferred using

DATA Acquisition system server computer using PCIE gen2 X4 at rate of 2.5 GBPS.

• My part is to design module(hardware setup) for scanning data and configure 12-bit octal channel

ADS-5281- ADC, wrote VHDL code for initialization registers, power up mode configuration and

data transfer to first level of FPGA’s.

• Compared and made analysis of xGMII, XAUI, XFI, SFI,PCIE --to figure out which fits our project

need, configured PCI-E coregen module for final stage data transfer using vertex-6 ML605 board at a

speed of 2.5-GTPS with PCIE gen2 x4. Wrote VHDL code and verified it for interconnecting module

to read data from final level of FPGA in proper sequence and recreate the image at server.
