RBC Bearings (10/11-10/12) Hartsville, SC

Metallurgical Engineer

• Received incoming products to perform metallurgical examinations involving:

sectioning samples using a band saw, hot mounting, polishing to mirror finish,

etching with 2% nital, microstructure evaluation with a light microscope

(spherodised annealed, banite, martensite, ferrite, austenite, decarb, etc), chemical

analysis with a Spectromax, Leco oxygen machine, and macro/micro-hardness

testing

• Created reports for customers and company quality records with detailed testing

operations and approval or disapproval of the product

• Performed titrations on various coolants

• Oversaw Heat Treat production and operators while helping maintain an

endothermic generator along with rotary furnace and Gleason Press Quench

machine

• Assisted in rebuilding an Excel spreadsheet designed to create a heat treat recipe

(furnace temperature, time, quench rate, tempering, deep freeze, etc) for various

bearings and products sent through heat treat

• Attended classes to properly read engineering prints

• Inspected and measured numerous parts (parallelism, flatness, roundness, surface

finish, run out, concentricity, etc) making sure they matched engineering prints

• Assisted in creating APQP procedures and techniques in Heat Treat production

checking for defects such as: transverse and longitudinal cracks, pin holes, gouges,

and excess scale

for inputting data to establish a paper-less system
