Accomplishments

TSM / OSM System console connectivity:

Each of the ANZ NonStop production and disaster recovery systems have two NonStop System Consoles (NSC), running

Tandem System Management (TSM) software connected to the system service processor LANs. The ANZ NonStop

development system has one NonStop System Consoles (NSC), running Open System Management (OSM) software

connected to the system service processor LANs. These system consoles are accessed remotely from a PC, installed in

Main office building. This PC had Carbon Copy software running on it, which is used to connect to a Carbon Copy

session on a system console and to operate system console remotely. The connectivity was a dial up service over 56K

modems. This transfer speed was never achieved, the lines were prone to drop outs and noise and the screens were very

slow to refresh the system console screens. To allow a fault-tolerant and continually available service, it was essential

that we upgrade this connectivity from a dial up service to a secure Broadband service. The current software suite used

was falling out-of-support and was a firm dependency for OS G06.28. It was necessary to replace the under spec and out

dated console PCs with hardware that will run the current version of OSM (Open System Management).

Console control of the Tandem Systems is a critical function. When a System needs urgent attention, this is the only

method of remote access of the OSM LLL (Low Level Link), necessary for stopping and starting the Systems. The

current dialup:

The project was Remote PC will be connected to NonStop System Console through Telecom Broadband service.

Upgraded the Tandem TSM software to OSM software. Liaise with broadband service provider to set up IPSec VPN

tunnel between sites. Remote console is configured to connect over secured broadband connection to access Tandem

OSM private network.

Tandem parallel IP Connectivity:

The ATM software has single IP address for host access and provides no inbuilt features to assist with network resiliency

or Disaster recovery. It is proposed that this software were pursued with regard to DNS or some form of host directors are

installed in the Data Centre that could provide Network resiliency and DR failover.Tandem was configured with Parallel

TCPIP process in LNP mode to make ATM connectivity to tandem in fault tolerant mode.

NSM:

NSM Event Managementis an exception management facility. Using Event Management one can define policies that

instruct NSM to intercept selected messages requiring additional attention and direct these messages to a centralized

location where they can be processed automatically.

NSM agent have been configured on tandem to forward messages which are required to be looked at.

PNA (Programmatic Network Architecture) and AO(Automated Operator):

PNA is a rule-based application that provides automated control over the operations of Tandem systems, networks and

application. Built on DSM (distributed Systems management) architecture, PNA uses the existing operations

management services and applications that interface with DSM. To extend DSM, PNA supports test based events and non

subsystems programmatic Interface driven subsystems.

PNA recognizes problem events and automatically starts recovery of the failed events as per rules. Rules are executable

scripts that PNA uses to analyze EMS event messages, make decisions and take actions. This rules are written in RDL

(Rule Definition Language).Such automation has number of benefit such as reliving operators of repetitive tasks,

reducing human error, and ensures that task is performed according to companies policies.

Automated Operator is advance tool which has out-of-the-box monitoring, escalation, recovery and reporting .Its policy

based operations automation tool to detect and resolve problem before they impact business.

Implemented these tools on NonStop server.

Migration from S-series to N-series system:

Actively involved in migration from S-series system to N-series. Which involved migrating from S7606 to NS1206

server Hardware installation, OS upgrade from H06.14 to H06.17, IPM installation, performance tuning, security

management, system and user application compatibility.

SFTP:

Installed and configured SFTP on NonStop system to have secure file transfer to third party customer.
