Professional Highlights
● Managed sophisticated Oracle database containing detailed information for a variety of assets
totaling $50 billion. Overall responsibility for data design. Designed and implemented detailed checks

for holding or liquidating a $3 billion real estate portfolio. System was subsequently in regular use for

2007-2012 Vice President, AXA-Equitable, Office of the Chief Financial Officer
Business experience: Drawing on extensive Statutory knowledge, streamlined and modernized
numerous Statutory processes, including ownership by business line, reserving process for participating
products, and deferred acquisition costs. Successfully converted annual processes to quarterly with no
increase in staff.
Technical experience: Developed new streamlined Oracle database for invested assets, resulting in easier, less
time-consuming administration. Simplified data structure, designed new data checks, executed on unit
acceptance testing.
1992-2006 Vice President, AXA-Equitable, Office of the Chief Investment Officer
Business experience: Implemented process for investment income plans and forecasts. Created and continually
improved quarterly analysis process. Worked on numerous task forces to resolve problems in various
troubled asset classes, notably real estate and junk bonds. Effected improvements to various parts of
the financial process. Managed unit size from 25 people to 5 over a several year period, mostly though
automation of functions.
Working as financial analyst and programmer, developed a strategy to sell or retain each property in a
$3 billion dollar portfolio. Freed up $600 million of much-needed capital.
Technical experience: Developed an Oracle database of invested assets against a Y2K deadline.
Managed needed data expansions, either on a planned or a crisis basis. Designed sophisticated checks
of accounting and non-accounting information with the goal of having all data immediately useable.
Made extensive use of Business Objects as a query and reporting tool.
1986-1991 Assistant Vice President, Equitable Life, Asset Policy Office
Business experience: Implemented an investment projection process which was the precursor to later
financial plans and analysis efforts. Provided detailed data and analysis to potential buyers of Equitable.
Numerous projects to support Equitable conversion to a stock company, and subsequently to provide
asset data and explanations to AXA France, which acquired Equitable Life.
Technical experience: Triaged a FOCUS database of invested assets, making it timely and more
accurate. Dropped a large portion of database which had no natural users. Added numerous data feeds
to complete database and make it useable. Identified and added key non-accounting information to
enhance overall data usefulness.

1980-1985 Manager, Equitable Life, Pension Operations Area
Business experience: Identified product profitability at a detailed level. Implemented changes to better
align financial processes with financial goals. Designed and implemented a new fee schedule which
was far less complex and which generated an additional $3 million per year of revenue. In addition, new
fee scheduled separated fees charged of flagship Real estate product, enabling direct comparison to
competitors. Designed and implemented a new compensation schedule which paid sales force based
on profitability rather than volume.
Technical experience: Developed APL application to join data from various “data silos” around
Equitable, and produced product profitability analysis. Extensively scrubbed data sources to resolve
discrepancies and to establish shared definitions. APL application became the analytical engine to
support changes in Pension Operations.
1978-1980 Financial Analyst, Equitable Life, Product Development
Business experience: Built a model to determine fee schedule which would apply to the new product.
Expanded model to work with company financial planning process, and to predict budget requirements
of the newly-formed unit. Built staff to support the new product and established procedures to be
followed in daily operation and monthly closes. New product eventually generated over $1 billion of new
assets.
Technical experience: Worked with IT consultants to create a dictionary of data elements to be used by
the new system, and specified mathematical relationships between various data elements. Developed
comprehensive test plan to ensure all aspects of system accuracy. Worked intensively with
programmers to implement system.

goal was to give AXA managers better insight into their own individual strengths and weaknesses, and
to understand how best to manage in the difficult environment confronted by AXA both in the US and
elsewhere.
