Work Experience
Bubbly, Singapore - Software Engineer (Dec 2012 - Present)
Working on the platform of the company's sole product Bubbly, a social
messaging service where people share their voice blogs. The current
project of the team focuses on re-architecture of the entire platform and
hence has interesting and enough number of challenges to face every day.
1-click environment on cloud - This project aims at creating the whole
bunch of servers required to launch and configure the bubbly based on
customer specific configurations. Starting from the number of servers,
different roles of the nodes in the hierarchy, the build to deploy and a
lot of other stuffs would vary from operator to operator. All of these were
automated so that these would happen on a single click!
Auditing the cloud instances - The objective of this project was to be cost
effective on the usage of cloud instances. A system was developed to
create; audit; maintain; notify; shutdown; auto-shutdown cloud instances.
This acts as an interface between the third party cloud APIs and codebase
of Bubbly thus providing flexibility to switch cloud services easily.
Automated Test Engine to test the platform of bubbly - A system that tests
the end to end functionality of all the features of Bubbly Platform is
being developed in Python and Java. The challenges of this project are to
trigger the pre-conditions and verifying the post-conditions as the logic
are split across modules and tiers.
Amazon.com India Development Center - Programmer Analyst (May 2011 - Nov
2012)
Worked on key projects of Retails team which drives Amazon's retail
business, the bread and butter of Amazon. Proven ability and effectiveness
in various leadership principles of Amazon especially 'Insist on high
standards', 'Ownership', 'Bias for action' and 'Innovate and simplify'.
Vendor feed integration projects - Integrated a couple of vendors' feed to
add item details data into Amazon's catalog, for close to 2.7 Million
items, adding huge selection and enriching item detail pages of Amazon's
website. Took end-to-end ownership in automating the process and
communicating with business teams across the globe to understand and
implement the business logic.
Designing a portal for feed integration processes - This project aimed at
designing a portal to the business team which helps them integrate meta-
data (item details which could be seen on detail page) from various sources
into Amazon's retail catalog. This was designed to avoid back and forth
communication between engineers and the business team which dragged the
integration time. Challenges involved were mimicking and automating a bunch
of processes, introducing artificial intelligence, designing domain
specific language for non-technical users and a lot more.
Feeds metrics and reports analysis(self-interest kaizen project which
didn't have roadmap time) - The objective was to design a system which
generates a set of metrics and reports required to audit huge feeds,
containing item detail, from various vendors. Metrics should be gathered
for data quality, item addition, enriching details and much more. A high
level design, prototype of the design and cost-benefit analysis was also
done as all data were not readily available.
Deprecating legacy system to rules engine - Migrated the Amazon's item-data
reconciliation business logic from a legacy system to the newer rule based
system. This involved critical analysis of the impact and quality of the
data. This project resulted in reducing time spent on manual analysis of
new data source making it 5X faster and time taken by the system to
reconcile the data 3X faster.
Other projects and operational excellence work - Proactively fixed bugs in
the existing system; introduced test frameworks to the existing systems,
identified potential areas of improvement and contributed towards
optimizing the existing process out of office hours. Worked with business
units of various countries to bring better user experience; to implement
region based business logic on the catalog; to enhance vendor's inventory
data processing and much more.
Internship Experience
eBay IDC, Chennai - Intern, Software Development Engineer ( May 2009 - Nov
2009)
Worked as a full time intern for 7months with the Platform team of eBay
which provides a kernel framework on which the entire code base of the
company runs. The internship project aimed at developing and enhancing an
automated build and merge tool, mICE 2.0. The key goals of this project
includes improving the overall performance and reliability of the tool, to
enhance user experience via UI, to support more than one entry point to the
system by introducing web services and much more.
eBay IPC, Chennai - Intern, Software Development Engineer (Dec 2010 - May
2011)
Worked as a full time intern for 6months with the Platform team of eBay
which develops and maintains various in-house tools along with the kernel
framework of the eBay. As part of this internship two most awaited for
tools were developed.
1) Dashboard for Asset Repository - This project aimed at developing a
reporting system for the asset repository of eBay. The system was designed
to gather required metrics from various sources, manipulate the data, store
in a readily available place, cache it and to keep the data updated. Equal
challenges were involved in generating interactive reports to the end
users.
2) Eclipse Plugin for portal development - An eclipse plugin was
developed to ease the work of portal development for eBay engineers. The
plugin takes care of generating a portal skeleton with various other non-
business functions like authentication, logging etc., so that the engineer
can concentrate on the business logic.
