Executive Director, Subspecialty Services, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (2011-Pres.)
Responsibilities: Enhance working relationship between UPP and CHP Executive Administration through
financial and management oversight. Assist with practice plan development for 14 Pediatric Subspecialty
Practices. Work with over 120 Subspecialty Physicians and 160 staff to increase operational efficiency within
the CHP framework, provide physician support for Meaningful Use, space utilization and the development of
subspecialty specific incentive plans.
Accomplishments:
• Assisted in development of Saturday OR incentive plan to encourage maximum utilization of North
Surgi-center while decompressing the Operating rooms at Main Campus (case counts increased 2.5% to
20,071)
• Worked with Hospital and UPP administration to develop and implement a plan for clinic space
decompression, moving more services to outreach locations and/or streamlining schedules and templates
to improve room utilization while increasing ambulatory encounters by 6.5% (94,785 enc.)
• Enrolled 57 physicians as eligible providers for the federal Meaningful Use program and implemented
new workflows which allowed 48 of the 54 to successfully meet all criteria of Stage 1 of the program to
date, generating $1.2M in revenue for the organization.
• Successfully negotiated with Hospital Executives for support and expansion of several new clinical
services including the Pediatric Chronic Pain Management Service and the Vascular Anomalies Clinic
and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Executive Administrator, Plastic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh Physicians of UPMC (2010-2011)
Responsibilities: Oversaw the breakout of Plastic Surgery from the Department of Surgery, developed budget
for new business unit with UPP and established the structure for a new Department within the School of
Medicine. Worked with the Chief to develop retention package and present to UPP Executives. Developed
guidelines and tracking/reporting structure around newly formed Hospital-based Hand and Face Transplant
service. Along with Senior Research faculty oversaw both federal and state funded grant programs ensuring
compliance with fiscal and reporting requirements. Ensure divisional compliance with all UPP/UPMC and
University rules and regulations
Accomplishments:
• Successfully developed the budgets and reporting structure for a new BU within UPP.
• Improved working relationship with McGowan Institute ensuring accurate and timely reporting of
expenditures and scientific research reports.
• Negotiated new contracts with the VA for plastic surgery services worked closely with VA administration
to streamline the hand reconstruction service.
• Met all UPP/UPMC and University deadlines and requirements for faculty and staff.
• Successfully managed the staff and program through a difficult transition after the Chief had left the
division to develop the program at Johns Hopkins.
Executive Director, Ambulatory Services, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (2003 – 2009)
Responsibilities: Supervised several hospital-based ancillary services as well as community related outreach
services including PT/OT, Communication, and Rehab services, Family Counseling Centers, Ronald McDonald
Care Mobile, The Weight Management Center and Family Care Connections. Promoted to the Executive
Director position in 2006 after serving as the Director of Surgical Services and the Practice Manager for
Pediatric Plastic Surgery.

Accomplishments:
• Assisted in the Ambulatory redesign and movement of the Hospital from Oakland to Lawrenceville
• Worked with the Informatics team to implement the CERNER EHR throughout the Ambulatory setting.
• Successfully negotiated increased county government support for expansion of the Family Care
Connections Outreach Centers. Developed new and innovative ways to increase family participation in
the Centers as well and improved working relationships between the Centers and Hospital-based
services.

primary-care based behavior therapy increasing referrals and revenue to the therapy service.

• Was heavily involved in 3 successful JC and DOH Hospital surveys and over have in-depth knowledge

Accounting Manager, Brigham & Women’s Physician Organization, Partner’s Healthcare (1997 –
2003)
Responsibilities: Supervised the accounting staff and functions for 17 separate business units within the newly
created Brigham & Women’s Physician Organization (BWPO), worked closely with the BWPO and Corporate
Controller and President.
Accomplishments:
• Implement standard accounting procedures and closing processes for 17 departments to ensure
consolidated financial statements were accurately prepared.
• Consolidated financial staff generating savings of over $200k in the first year of operation.
• Reduced closing timeframe by 2 days to successfully meet deadline set forth by Corporate for the timely
and accurate reporting of accounting activity for the newly formed BWPO.
Business Manager, Atlantic Monthly Magazine, Boston MA. (1989 – 1997)
Responsibilities: Supervised the accounting staff and functions for the Atlantic Monthly Magazine, developed
budgets and financial forecasts as well as rate worksheets for Ad sales and negotiated barter contracts with
vendors.
Accomplishments:
• Oversaw daily operations of two magazines – one during its start-up phase managed all A/P, A/R and
G/L activities for both magazines.
• Worked closely with monthly magazine sales staff and circulation staff to project revenues and cost
analysis for client and budgetary presentations.
• Interfaced with outside audit team on annual audit and preparation of taxes, maintained all bank contacts.
• Provided comprehensive financial analysis on major printing contract resulting in a $300k savings in
first year of contract.
• Converted ad-billing system from a mainframe to PC-based environment, decreasing the billing time
cycle by three days.
• Designed a computer model to more accurately allocate manufacturing costs, allowing for more effective
budgeting and cost control.
