ACADEMIC PROJECTS
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROJECT Duration: 8weeks
Company: Reliance Infrastructure;
Central Procurement Group, Bombay Transmission, Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS).
Project Title 1: To Study the Procurement Procedure at Central Procurement Group (CPG) of Reliance Infra.
Description: At CPG, case studies for procurement of various power plant system and equipment. It gave an insight of
various steps included in the process; a techno-commercial Experience in the very beginning of the internship.
Project Title 2: To Suggest the methodologies for detection and prevention of spontaneous combustion in the coal
yard at DTPS.
Description: The project was undertaken with an aim to reduce the rate of occurrence of spontaneous combustion in the
coal yard, hence reducing GCV loss. Effect of heap size and height, advantages of chemi cal treatment, Charcoal layering,
utilization of CO monitoring system and Infrared monitoring system, were studied; and suggestions were made.

Project Title 3: To determine whether the belt tensions and counter weights are in proper limits in belt convey or
system at DTPS.
Description: This project was undertaken for determining belt tension is in permissible limits. Mathematically, tensions
were calculated for each belt and values were compare with the maximum permissible tension, calculated from the
maximum permissible stress, obtained from a performance test performed by the a belt supplier. A calculation for
justification of counter weight was also performed.
MAJOR PROJECT:
Project Title: Development and testing of a biomass gasification cum power generating unit.
Description: This project was undertaken for the purification of producer gas produced from a downdraft gasifier and
then testing an engine to evaluate its performance for production of electricity.
MINOR PROJECT:
Project Title: Enrichment of biogas by molecular sieve technology to run a engine
Description: This project was undertaken with an aim for testing of different compositions of jatropha de-oiled cake and
cow dung to obtain the maximum possible yield of the biogas. Then to enrich the biogas produced using molecular sieve to
remove carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide so that it can be used to run engines for production of electricity.
Other industrial exposure:
Studied the working of a coal fired thermal power plant at NTPC Dadri.
Attended various seminars related to the power sector, organized by UPES.
Visited DIREC 2010. Attended conferences on ‘Biomass Utilization’ and ‘Solar heating and Cooling Systems’.
Visited a Seminar on “Tariff- Fundamentals and Formulation” with regard to Mumbai, during summer internship,
at Reliance Energy Management Institute (REMI).
Visted BHEL Haridwar, Chibro Hydro Power Plant.
